If you have created a DMX device for the community please post it here. This thread will act as a single collection of all DIYC DMX projects.

Be sure to include the name of the project, a brief description and a link to further information. If this is a new project, please post the name if it has one, a brief description and any supporting files or documents.

NOTE: This thread isn't designed for discussion or comments about these projects please move those posts to a thread in the DMX section of the forum.

8 Channel SX DMX relay pack.

This is an 8 channel relay pack controlled via DMX. It is based on the Parallax SX microcontroller. The SX was used because of its low cost, fast speed, and easy to learn programming language. The chip can be programmed via BASIC or assembly.

DMX Status display panel

This is a display panel that shows in real time the value of 256 channels (jumper selectable for the first or second half of the universe) on a 16x16 LED matrix. It displays 6 bits of intensty per pixel.

The discussion that spawned this project is here

New: A bit of hackery and code optimization, and it now does 8 bits per pixel!

and a DMX Splitter (4 Channel)

Came across this one a while ago.
it has some nice professional functions.

I understand it is more than what most DYI users want, but it is worthy of mention considering what it packs in. construction is pretty simple also.

Somehow the link got truncated or changed since Ben posted it.

Here's the "new" link - DMX Test Utility (http://doityourselfchristmas.com/forums/dynamics/showentry.php?e=57&catid=26)

The URL points the file library here on DIYC.

This post is a great idea. I am a long time renard user but would like to switch to RGB DMX. Has anyone pulled it all together in a similar fashion to http://www.doityourselfchristmas.com/wiki/index.php?title=Renard_Main_Page Back during the renard development, I actually created a spreadsheet that compared each of the available boards including cost of boards and ALL parts and then normalized it to cost per channel. This is a lot to ask but provides a basis for choosing. Anyway, let me thank everyone working on this. The level of dedication to this hobby is amazing - I was fascinated reading the RGB string reverse engineering posts - it was like the birth of a religion. :) I am still lost in the mire but hope to get a handle on it in enough time to take advantage of a coop of the most user friendly and efficiently priced system. Thanks to you all!!

The PropController is an open source single-board hardware platform designed for lighting and prop control. Based on the Parallax Propeller microcontroller, the PropController has 24 I/O pins, can be powered by both AC and DC supplies. Some of things you could control with the PropController include AC Dimmers, Low Voltage DC LEDs, Pixel Strings, hobby servos, and even motors.

There are two versions of the PropController, RS-485/DMX and Ethernet. The DMX version features a galvanically isolated RS-485 half-duplex interface. The Ethernet version features the WizNet WIZ812MJ, which makes communicating via Ethernet easy. In addition, both versions are designed to be compact and have 4 mounting holes allowing it to be mounted into any enclosure.

I have created this very simple DMX sender for Linux I have uploaded the schematics and source code to source forge. Have a look here http://sourceforge.net/projects/simpledmxlinux/

I am currently working on a 3-universe send and receiver for Linux but it is in the early stages. Anyway just though I'd share what I have done so far.
