i just got done seq goastbusters... the last 45 seconds or so are just intermentals and i dont want it.

My question is how can i cut it off so i dont have the music? Will vixen allow for this or did i have to cut it then "inport" the cut version to vixen adn seq that?

Please tell me vixen has the capacity i have not cut a song yet and i dont have any softwere to do it.

thanks

For audio editing - i would reccommend one called audacity - and edit the song that way.

best of all - its free! http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

Audacity is so easy, it will probably take you longer to download and install than it will to modify the song to the length you want.

Now you have the power to do some 'interesting' modifications to the songs too.
Mixes, fades, level adjusts.
More Power!

i have been told audacity by another DYIer but i all ready have it in vixen and was hoping to cut it in there.

But THANK YOU for the wed link!!! i did hear of it but did not know where to get it.

now my new question is how can i transfer my seq to the cut version and get it sinked (the sink part may not be that hard)

Is it just open a new seq set it to the new cut version then do one big cut
and paste?

thanks scott

If you are just cutting off the end of the song in audacity, do that and save to a new audio file. In Vixen, go into Sequences/Audio, click the assign audio, making sure the resize audio button is checked. The length will be updated to the new audio length, cutting off at the end. So if you only cut off the end of the song, anything you did in the original version should be fine. You shouldn't need to cut or paste anything.

However, if you added or deleted anything at the beginning or during the song, it obviously won't work.

I'd make a copy of your original before you do this, just in case it doesn't work for you, but I haven't had a problem with it so far. (knocking on wood now).

If you need the output to be an MP3 file, you will also need to download LAME:

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/help/faq?s=install&item=lame-mp3

This one stumps people sometimes. Works great if you follow the instructions though.

Good Luck!

Hey Scott,

Vixen was not made for that and doesn't have the capabilities to cut down/ play with your audio files. Get audacity from the link provided. Although telling Vixen to re-size the sequence based on your new shorter MP3 should work for what you want to do, if it doesn't quite match up as far as getting it synced, here is a tip which may help. I can tell you that when people here post their sample sequences, as you know they can't post music for liability/copyright reasons. For that reason, I go to youtube via the KMC123pedia method he graciously posted. My point being that although the music/song is the same the audio obviously doesn't match the sequnce timing. If that happens, just highlight the entire sequence starting from where your 1st lights turn on select top line cell and then use the sliders to go to the bottom right cell of the sequence, hold down shift then select that cell (bottom right) Once the area is highlighted, press CTRL-C to copy to clipboard. All you do then is paste (CTRL-V) the entire sequence along the timing axis (left-right/ Top Line) of the sequence. Play with the paste until your lights match the music during playback.

EDIT - I may have mis-spoke, if CTRL-V for paste doesn't work use the "opaque paste"

additionally, for re-sizing your sequence to your MP3 take a look at my next post.

Here's some pics to help with the re-size.
