Hi All,

I have 2 decorative circles on each peak of my house.

My goal would be to make a matrix to put over top of the circles in order to have an image displayed at different times of year.

For example : we will live in Ottawa , ONT so I'd like to have my house outline be red / white / yellow ( ottawa senator colours ) and be able to have the sens logo inside both those circles.

Say for Halloween have pumpkins, xmas have a wreath.

Image would be still.

Dimensions of circle is 2 ft wide , 2 ft high.

Can this be done and will an image be viewable ?

Almost anything can be done :)

I doubt with an area that small you're going to get an image that has enough pixels in it to make it clear.

Even if you do get a clear image being able to view it from the ground to your roof is a whole other issue.

Circular matrices made of LED rings are readily available e.g. AliExpress (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Mokungit-1-8-12-16-24-32-40-48-60-93-241-Bits-LEDs-SK6812-WS2812/32788637200.html) has 241-LED WS2812 RGBWW rings for US$39 plus shipping. But these are small (compared to what you're after) -- 15cm (6in) diameter made up of 9 rings.

To get to 2ft diameter, I guess you're looking at 36 rings, with the outer ring made up of 240 LEDs. Maybe you could make up those outer rings from WS2812 LED strips?

Probably it would be easier to build a 2ft square matrix (e.g. 64 of these (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/WS2812-LED-5050-RGB-8x8-64-LED-Matrix-for-Arduino/32657909971.html)) and just not turn on the LEDs outside the circle? That would give you 64 pixels in X and Y... it would mean a fairly grainy image.

What about a 2x2 ft square and space ws2811 bullets beside eachother meaning
24x24=288 pixels
Could that provide a decent image?

I've heard of those but haven't inquired. Any quick suggestion as to why ?

In xLights you could do a custom model to match the number of rings that you want to use.
