I have everything needed to assemble a yard train for next year. After chatting with Walter Monkhouse, I need to find a better (less noisy) drive assembly.

-hooking up the HotWheels gear drive unit to a battery, you can hear the damn thing from a block away.. literally!

Does anyone know a good source for wheelchair or scooter motors? 24vdc is preferred.

I used to have a wheelchair motor....project for a client from a long time back. He fell off the grid so I think I might still have that in a box someplace, I'll take a look this weekend. I know I have his controller prototypes, as I kept imagining one day he would call me up and restart it but its now been nearly 10 years ago so I think its safe to give it to you IF I still have it.

This any good?

Edit:
How do you calculate the power needed for your train. Does it carry small passengers?

Probably wont need to go this far, but these guys over on the Halloween forum are doing some great things with building their own Halloween ride.

No passengers, just a small 30-40" long locomotive and 24-30" long cars/caboose

OK so I found the motor, but its 12V. I was going to snap a picture of the label on it but first wanted to see if 12V was a deal killer for you?

Hi!

I'm new to this, so bear with me.

How about BLDCs? The BLDC Motor: Brushless DC Motors (http://www.powerjackmotion.com/product-category/electric-motor/bldc-motor-range/) from Power Jack Motion encompass the voltage range of 24V.

Hope this helps!

I would like to see the yard train when you finished it.
