View Full Version : Problem: converting from 1.1.11 to 2.0

I was able to convert all my sequences into 2.0 except 3. None of them will start. As soon as I press run, Vixen throws up this error box that says
(Sound system error (ERR_PLUGIN_RESOURCE)
A resource that the plugin requires cannot be found (ie the DLS for MIDI playback
What I found that was common to all three sequences was the music files are all .wma files. All the other audio files are .wav. Could this the problem?
All the sequences work (with music) in 1.1.11?
Where do I get the missing file or do I need to convert the music to something else? (how)
I do not remember these files being MIDI files but that was 2 years ago ….
Thanks

WMA are Window Media Audio files. Vixen uses the windows media player for sound. See if you can play the songs in WMP. If not; fix the problem and Vixen will work also.

If I go to the Audio folder of Vixen, I can play any of the music with Windows Media Player. This is what I do not understand.
What does this mean? (ERR_PLUGIN_RESOURCE) How would I find out if I do have a file missing? Could the fact that the box I am using is running Windows ME be part of the problem? Note: my old version of Vixen runs on the same box.

I would use an outside utility (like Audacity) to open and save the file to another format. Then re-assign the new file to the sequence and re-test.

What version of Windows Media Player are you using? Vixen uses the DDL’s from WMP and some of the function calls are either not there or the name has changed compared to older versions. I don’t remember the switch over point; whether it was 8.2 or 9.0. There’s really no reason not to upgrade to the latest version that ME will support.

You got me all excited. I thought you may have found the answer. I looked and Media Player on my ME box is ver 7.000. I then clicked "check for updates" but it said I have the latest version. I guess that was the last version used on ME.
I still do not understand why I can play it with Media Player in the folder but not inside Vixen 2.0
Do you think this is something I should ask KC about? Maybe there there is something wrong or missing from my plugin(s).

Have you copied your music files from Vix 1 "Music" folder into Vix 2 "Audio" folder? from memory you needed to do this. Then again, my memory isn't what it used to be.lol

Thanks Ernie. I will download this tonight and give it a try.
Klanger:
Thanks for your input. I did move the music files into the Vixen 2.0 Audio Folder when I began the conversion. I checked this before, thinking I forgot to do this.

Erine ..... You the man!!!
That was it, upgrade to Media Player 9.0 and the problem was gone.
I did see during the install something about loading a midi drive for WMA files so I am thinking that once that was done the problem was solved.
Again Thanks
Carl

I'm glad it worked for you. I seem to remember that 8.2 worked also, but 9.0 added the ability to change speed, which is a pretty cool feature in Vixen when working with really fast music.
It’s nice to see that Microsoft still has support for the older operating systems still even though they said they wouldn’t. I think they wanted to chop off support for XP, but Vista has so many problems and most people don’t want to be beta testers for something they rely on.
