What do you guys think of this? These are little tin rings that contain flux and you slip it over a lead and it is just enough to make a good connection. This would be great for beginners, but I could also see a person becoming too dependent on these and not getting the feel for using a spooled solder.

Those are pretty nifty. I wouldn't use them, but still nifty

hmmmmmmmmm one ledtricks PCB package...... 768 leds...... 1500+ rings..... (imagine the package getting dropped on the floor, scattering those rings!)
Would have to be a 90% discount to make it attractive

I think it'd be easier (and probably cheaper) to pay someone to solder in that case.

Hmmm, I know of a nifty big thing called a smart board, its like a giant touchscreen, but these are cool too.

all you need is a scrap board and you can practice away

I think I could have had 4 or 5 connections soldered in the time it took to put the rings on two leads. No thanks.

I reckon they'd be brilliant for a first timer - wish I'd had them to "practice" with! An excellent way to see how solder behaves without having to juggle a spool of solder, a hot soldering iron and a practice board for the first time. Once you got the confidence up with a packet of these you'd naturally want to try a spool - plus I'd say the cost of these versus a spool of solder would make it an attractive option anyway.

And so what if someone became "dependant" on them anyway? You do what you gotta do to get boards done to make the lights blinky flash - isn't that the goal?

Great product spot - thanks for sharing.
