This post has been redone from scratch.......

So, I've been designing another SSR based on the coop SSR.

Why you may ask?

- I wanted to be able to 'see' the fuse
- I want to know if AC voltage is present on the board
- I wanted to have a termination point for the neutrals instead of using a wire nut bundle

Below is my result.
- You can see the fuse. It uses a standard glass 5x20mm fuse
- You have the OPTION of installing indicator lamps.
One lamp tells you if AC has made it to the board.
A Second lamp tells you if AC has made it across the fuse and is available to the triacs and optos.
I'll be using Neon lamps for this. They are really inexpensive at the electronic clearance houses.

This picture shows the design in PCB designer:

This picture shows the top silkscreen with the connectors, fuse and indicator lamps on a paper printout:

This picture shows the design with the bottom copper traces:

An finally, a comparison of the SSRoz to this design so you get an idea of size.
It's almost the same size top to bottom and about 1/2" wider.

Again, I'd like constructive comments.

" I wanted to take advantage of the $500 of 'free' PCBs offered by Advance Circuits."

Advanced circuits will give the first $500 of pcb's to any new business customer.

$500 worth of SSR boards is a ton of boards!

Are you going to use that many?

Ooh, Ooh, he could give some of the extras out as Christmas Presents!!!!

umm,

some small print....

NOTE: The $500 FREE applies to new "Company" customers. Proof of business license/status required.

Please note: This $500 Free does not apply to 1st time orders placed thru PCB Artist "Basic Service." The $500 Free may be used with our PCB Artist "Expanded Service."

ipso facto, there is no such thing as a free lunch...

another option is to fit a small neon globe into the SSR enclosure between the Hot (fused) and Neutral. you would only need to use a globe and a dropping resistor, put the whole lot in clear heatshrink and solder some wire tails to the package, and solder the tails to the PCB. Neons give off a nice orange glow

I've completely re-written the original post and re done the board design.

Please take a moment to read post #1.

Thanks!

Or fit a neon across the fuse. If It is on, the fuse is blown!

I would drop the 2x3 terminal block and use only 2 terminal block with switched Active and neutral at each block.

Check your clearance between the neutral and the Low voltage section, I looks a bit short?

Cheers
Matt

Neon bulbs need a series resistor to limit the current. Some modules have them built in, but a bare NE2 will go bang if it's not there. It's just like an LED but the drop across the bulb is about 60V and the current is about 0.75mA if I remember correctly.
