I have been using a square pixel tls 3001 matrix for the past 3 yrs and am now converting to strip .

Ordered 125 meters of the 2812b strip and am hoping to get better resolution .

The price of this strip has dropped dramatically so I couldn't resist .

My question to anyone that is currently using this strip is power injection and design method used > vertical or horizontal ?

I was contemplating vertical and injecting along the bottom edge .

If you used this strip , how have you designed your matrix and managed the power injection.

I am interested in hearing your experiences with this and what dimensions you found best for clear video resolution .

I created a 30w 20h horizontal matrix a few years ago.
It was based in the Ws2812b LED with on board chip.

I created bus strips along each side.
Every strip had power on the left
and ground on the right.

Top row had a loose connection I never did fix.

Thanks for the feed back and video Joel .

Now I cannot wait for these strips to arrive , and hoping the 60/m density will satisfy my expectations for decent resolution that could not be achieved with strings.

If not I will try 144/m next .

Hello Angus, a little late perhaps, and i'm dutch with rusty english, so...(sorry).. but i've orderd the 2812B 60/m to (ip 76). 5meters waterproof. I cut it in 5 pieces (bey bey waterproof) so my display is now 5 rows of 60 leds. I powered every row with ➕ and ➖ and the data offcourse. My calculations are 0.060 ampère for each led times 60 leds is then 3.6 ampere (5 volt) and 5rows.. 18 amps! That is a lot, and there I wunder how much can the strip (not the leds) hold before it's gonna burn? I'm fully testing around with this and it works like a charm. Nothing even gets warm or close to it. if the display is all white (most power use) it's to bright to look at, so maybe that's why it won't get warm. Although I'm struggling with vixen3 (arduino) to display text, while the curtain option works fine?. Stil trying [emoji4]

I built one last year. 60x107 60led/meeter strips in a 4'x6' hurricane panel. I went over and back with data and injected power on every strip from one side. It kept the controller and power supplies all on one side. It looked great.

It still had the protective film with red wording on it on it in the test video.

Hello FloJo

I am glad to hear you only purchased a small amount of the WS 2812b . Text on 5 x 60 may be very difficult for visual interpretation .

After many hours playing with the Ws pixels , I have concluded that the Ws series in general is not worth my effort .

I unfortunately purchased 10k of these strips . I will be going with a custom tls series strip in 2017 .

The Tls 3001 strip I have is now 5 seasons old and I am yet to see a failure , other than a pixel I lightly hit with a hammer that no longer generates blue .

best of luck .

Flojo 18amp at 5v is not that much. You may be thinking 18amp at 220v or 120v. Big difference. Text typically requires a minimum of 8 rows. But at 5 rows you can do some fun patterns, Barber pole and such.

Augus40 I see you don't like the ws2812b but how was the 60 per meter density?

60 per m density is ok , but ApA 144 per is much better . I will settle for 96 per m with the tls ic .

As you know I have tried to be a fan of the WS pixels but have not found anything good except for RobG's 20w ws 2811 Floods .

Amazing, that's a lot of work, but worthwhile. Looks great.

Oké thanks, I'll keep that in mind. Tls 3000? Gonna watch for them.... I guess.

Hi. And many thanks. But I was thinking the total of 300 leds in color white (all leds on :900leds) should be around 90 watts! Question for me remains: can I power a 5 meter strip 300leds Ws2812b without cutting, so it stays waterproof?

@angus40 do you still have those strips and are you looking to sell them?

I would take a few of you needed to sell them.

The good thing about nodes and strips is their nonrestrictive usage .

I will re purpose these eventually , just not for a video matrix .

@angus40 would you mind sharing why you decided not to use the WS ICs, and/or why you prefer the TLS? I'm about to make a big investment myself for 2017. Not looking to start a debate (if this has already been debated) - feel free to PM me if you prefer. Thanks.
