Plan on running with the Pi next year and during a test run today I noticed that I lost the NTP when controllers are plugged into the Ethernet jack. I have the WiFi dongle set to my home network (w/internet) and that gets the NTP until I plug into the Ethernet jack. Does this sound right? Should I be getting RTC to correct this. Thanks.

Make sure you configure your wired network that goes to the controllers without a gateway IP address. This should cause the routing tables to forward the NTP traffic out the wireless network. I've had periodic issues with this and have had to go to the network tab and restart the network interface before. You should not need a RTC module as long as the FPP can reach your home network.
