Ok , am just pondering here ....
If there is a way to dim via DMX , and also REN's and GRINCH (595's ) , has anybody figured something out for the DIO PCI 96 cards ?
Would be be nice ( hint , hint ) :);)

The only way to attempt it would be to pass the Vixen dimmer values to an external application that drove the PCI-DIO directly.
The manual gives a typical data rate of 10kbytes/s so somebody smarter on the "math of dimming" would need to figure out if it would even be doable.

I would not even try that with any general purpose operating system. There is no way to guarantee that the the tasks driving the hardware will be activated at precisely spaced intervals. There will almost certainly be dropouts and possible flashes as a result. It may be possible to do it with a dedicated machine (an application running on top of either bare hardware or maybe DOS), but I'm not sure that is what you had in mind.
There are ways to do it with external hardware, with adaptations of the methods that Ernie Horning or David Fansler used coming to mind. However, I doubt that it would be worthwhile to try these methods.
