View Full Version : Ren 24 LV Board Order *** Open to September 4th ***

The NEW Paypal payment is Frank@Kostyun.Com

The Co-Op board cost will be $20.00/board (I am pricing based on a assumed 20 board order) with a flat rate of $5.50 for shipping for up to 10 boards for the United States. I am NOT doing PICS for this board.

This is a new board based on the Ren24 - It also includes two more diag LEDs. It features the "core" of the Ren24 and 6 RJ45 jacks for either CoOp SSRs or individual LED lamps. My reason for this board is to re-do my starfield with individually controllable LED's instead of C9's

The PIC's will need to be loaded with the + output firmware. (Option in the firmware) this is considered an early release board, and it may contain bugs or small issues. I don't anticipate anything major since the core is based on the Ren24, but the potential is there.

The parts list is almost IDENTICAL to the Ren24 with a few notable exceptions. The addition of 6 additional RJ45 jacks, 4 additional jumpers, and 4 ULN2803 chips. It also eliminated 24 of the following: moc3023, BTA08-400, 180 ohm resistor, and 24 680ohm resistors. Also eliminated are the six pin connectors, the 4 double stacked connectors, or all but 2 of the spade connectors.

Mounting will be setup for the CG-1000 box from www.yourbroadbandstore.com

It will accept the 4/5 pin power input connector, but, will also work with the 2 pin connector.

This CoOp will End September 4th at 8:00PM MST (The time is so that the order can be placed that night) (Time change due to an awaiting a test order and also mouser parts for a hole change check.)

This IS the order you'll want to jump on to have the boards for Halloween!!!!!

Put me down for 2 please. It may also help those that have not been following along what this board is for. You hinted at it in your description.

This board is a matched "brother/sister/whatever" to the existing REN24. It is the same board accept the SSR's are now off-board in the form of the co-op SSR boards that many already have for thier 595's. The zero-cross detection and power supply is all on board. No external power or ZC detection is needed. These are designed to fit the CG-1000 9x9 boxes from yourbroadbandstore.com. This design lets you break your SSR boxes out to a more localized 24 channel controller within your display instead of running 16 CAT 5's back to a single 595 or REN64. And with a 232-485 adapter, you can daisy chain up to 6 boards throughout the display and have shorter runs of Cat 5 to your SSR's. (About 144 channels per serial port at 100ms intervals in Vixen)

If you purchased REN24's on the last Co-Op and also the parts co-op you probably were double PIC'd. You received PICs with the boards and in the parts kits.

Mr.T., yes, this the one!! You only need one controller for 20 MR16's. You will have to use external SSR's with this controller. You can use either AC or DC SSR's. You can get either of the boards from wJohn. If you want to use DC, you will need a DC power supply to power the bulbs. Here is a link for some inexpensive ones for sale on eBay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=200234646830&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=010
or you can use an old PC power supply.
If you want to use AC, you can use a landscape lighting transformer (with AC SSR's). Hope this helps.

Can we also use Wall-warts, or do they not hold enough amps. I have a few left over from phones.

fkostyun

there WILL be a connector on the board for wall-warts. I am in the process of increasing the size of the traces to the ULN2803s for external power source.

the PIC's are now in - so its not going to really matter. There's on "tiny" error on the board - which I will be correcting (IE I need to dremel a trace on all the co-op boards - but its a quick fix)

Ben

Pain in the wrist pain? Not really - lately I can barely move my fingers at all - but - I manage. Yesterday I had it put in a vise (and then cranked down) for about 20 minutes... that was a whole new bundle of joy. (This was for a MRI) Back to the doc's (again) next week - and hopefully they'll have some news (bad or good) for me.

Frank, I received my Ren 24 LV boards today, (Thanks!), and have one of them almost put together. I have run into a small snag. The board image that you have posted, along with the BOM, show 1 - 10 uf cap. The board I received has places for 2 of them. Are they both required? (if so, can a 100 uf cap be substituted?) One more question. What is the correct setting for the jumpers located near the SSR outputs if you want to run SSR's?
Thanks,
Randy

fkostyun
10-04-2008, 07:45 PM
The caps are just there for power smoothing - I reccommend 1 but more and bigger is fine too!

As far as using for SSRs - you won't need any jumpers, or in the OFF position.

I will get up a note tonight about the outputs 5 to 12

rstehle
10-05-2008, 11:44 AM
Frank, you were going to post something about the outputs for channels 5 - 12. Have you had a chance to work on that yet? (I have my board completed and want to do some testing)
Thanks,
Randy

Put in the two jumpers, hooked up DC SSR's, fired it up and it works great!! All 24 channels dim and blink as desired!!
One thing I have a question about though....... When the unit is powered on, all 4 of the Red LED's are on full bright (green power light on too), and dim as Vixen sends commands for the lights to be on. Red LED's are off when lights are on full bright. Is this the intended mode of operation? Do I have something hooked up wrong?
Thanks,
Randy

fkostyun

I thought I'd mentioned that before but - maybe I just thought about it - the diag led's will operate in REVERSE of the outputs.
