Apparently the Ren-T is not being made anymore, but wjohn has assured me that it is not that hard to build, just a transformer and some diodes. Does anyone have schematic or an assembly instructions. I looked in the wiki, but only found the real Ren-T assembly guide. Anyone have a good, easy to build, cheap alternative. Thanks.

Here you go, this may already be what you have... but maybe not.

and here http://doityourselfchristmas.com/wiki/index.php?title=Ren-T_PCB_Assembly_Instructions

Second link is actual instructions for assembly.

Here is the simplest and cheapest way to get ZC

I think you mean http://doityourselfchristmas.com/wiki/index.php?title=Renard_Connection_Instructions#Ren-T_.28Transformer_Board.29

You dont need R2 and the LED if you dont want it (But its handy). You can get away for a small centre tapped transformer, 2 diodes, 1 resistor, 1 DP9 connector (Serial in) and the RJ45 out of the unit. I built 3 of them into a plastic box & they provide all the ZC signals for my setup this year. Total cost was about $15 per setup and that will provide 2 Grinches/595's etc with a ZC signal

The circuit that daviddth refers to will certainly work, and is the way that I've been mostly pushing.

Jrock64 is (or was) using boards that he designed himself using the Renard guidelines. That little ZC board that he designed is meant to connect directly to the PICS without using the 2N3904 transistor present on the coop Ren-C board. It can be made to work with that coop boards by bypassing the 2N3904 transistor (use JP3).

Edit - there are power-line voltages present on the input side of either design, so care must be taken to avoid creating safety hazards (electrical shock, electrocution or fire).

Alright, so I'm confused. Will the one by Jrock work or not? I thought there needed to be a transformer.

Are you trying to use it with a Ren-C? If yes, it can be made to work, but the instructions on how to do so aren't there AFAIK.
