Chase lines....?

Can someone describe how the "Chase Lines" effects works? I can't find a description any...

Normal mode - Say channels 1-8 are you mega tree. If you hold down the ctrl key while on channel one and drag it down to channel eight a few time slots away, it while draw a chase pattern. If you hold shift and crtl, it will do it at a 45 deg angle.

Think what he was asking , is what , exactly , what would this look like when applied to the actual lights ? ( not how to do it )

In other words ( and don't jump me , if I'm wrong LOL )

I think its for like the arches , and when you have mini trees lined up so that when you do a chase , it makes it look like the trees are chasing each other , one at a time and fade out to the next , or for the arches to do the "leaping" look .
