Finally got these made and put together. Got to say they look amazing for as little as 7 pixels per tree(21 total leds)

Good job, great visual elements with relatively few pixels.

At first I'm thinking ok, that's different, and then you show the video where you control each section and it's like that's COOL I need to show the wifey those, she wants mini-trees this year.

Would you get better lighting and less drop off if you put one of your modules on the bottom of each baffle too?

you could definitely I would like to the bottom of the dividers I did not do this because I was trying to limit voltage drop over the 12 mini trees but if you dont mind injecting power then yes you'll get a lot more light and coverage for the tree. Mine uses 7 modules that contain three LEDs each. so thats 21 LEDs per tree
feel free to play with my design and let me know what you come up with it's a affordable way to build many trees. You could even use more shelves and get an even better chase. That would also help the coloring effect

heres an update.

was playing with the full set up last night. I am having issues with my design I was getting 8 trees lit up and the rest were doing nothing. Im not sure if it is distance from the controller or what. so I injected power into the 12th tree. still no light. so so moved the data wire to the 7th tree. bam 7-12 work great. I disconnected 6-7 bam 1-6 work great. but I cant get ll 12 to work together so I guess im going to split the 12 apart into 2 outputs on my controller and see if that helps. I shouldn't have to change anything in my sequence bc I can tell the controller where to start. update tonight. That's if I get my controller to reprogram again.

BTW. I did add 6 pixels to the top of each tree, kind of like a mini strobe, so now each tree has 13 pixels each. still only 156 pixels on a output. it should be able to push that.

I like them!! And they seem very Tory proof, so I should be good to go :)

Could you speak to how your channels are setup? It sounds like you aren't getting enough channels out to them, which would lead to less than all lighting.

From what you posted, it sounds like:
1 tree is 13px = 39 channels
12 trees is 156px = 468 channels.

No you are correct. I'm getting the channels out. It's just not getting data through 12 trespass only 8. I've solved the issue for now. I'm just going to use 2 out puts 6 trees per output with power injection in 12 and 6. They look awsome.
