I learned something new today, that may actually be useful. There is a website called freecycle.org that is people just giving away things so that they don't go into landfills. I took a look at the local one, and did a quick search on christmas lights. Had at least 25 people that were giving away strands that were new and never used, to broken ones that I am guessing could be used for wire or at the very least scrapped. So if you can ever pry yourself away from this site (not that I recommend doing so for long), give it a try. I have my "Wanted: Christmas Lights and Decorations" post up for my area.

I signed up last night and already got a response and invitation to pickup lights this weekend! Too cool. Thanks for the lead, deplanche!

I have heard of that place. I thought about joining it but I think the local one heres states you need to give away 3 items before you can take. Non the less I plan on giving them a look.

Well, I made the pickup of lights this afternoon. Not a bad haul considering it cost me nothing and only took a day!
NEW: (3) 100ct multi minis in the box and (1) 300ct white icicle string
USED: (~12) 100ct clear minis, (1) 100ct yellow mini, (1) 100ct red mini.

Well ... I , for one , will NOT sign up for YAHOO ( or MSN ) accounts . Not after back in '06 when BOTH sold out info , after signing up with them !
Nice idea , and not sure if you others are required to do , but for me , they are on YAHOO clubs and want me to sign up ( make an account ) and like I said , after back in '06 .... I don't think so .
Great idea ... just chose the WRONG site to use .

Thanks for the info on freecycle, I have since picked up from 3 different people. I've collected about 20 sets of lights, and halloween stuff as well.
