Well I just bought myself a new tv. I have a 36" crt in the livingroom, it was a hand-me-down when I bought my house 5 years ago. I found a good deal on Techbargains.com for a 42" Panny plasma, 720P for 899.00 with a free upconvert dvd player and free shipping. I hope it works out well for me.

I have that TV, and LOVE it. I'm sure you will, too. Are you planning on feeding it cable, satellite, or OTA signals? The "thriftiness" in me doesn't subscribe to any extra HD services, but I can tell you that OTA HD is IMPRESSIVE!!
Enjoy your new TV. It's not going to take away from your blinky-flashy time, is it?? ;)

Sweet. Good price! Once you go HD you'll never watch regular again.

I just the DirecTV HDDVR last tuesday. The dog has taken up so much of my time that I've only watched two things in HD. One was the Shuttle return to flight after Columbia, and the other was the smoke jumpers in Canada. Both beautiful shows. I did notice that DTV has a Video On Demand Beta on the new DVR. I have it hooked up to my DSL and saw the list of available shows before my 1 hour walk with Winter last night. I hope to get to it some day soon. If the dog allows it that is...

I've recently put the same TV on my bedroom wall. My nephew works at Best Buy, and with his discount he got me a scratch-n-dent model for a great deal ($780). It's got a nasty scratch down the side of it, but it works good. The HD picture is great.
As far as HD programming goes...I have just done a little market research recently. When I got my first HDTV a few years ago, a salesman for my cable company showed me their HD lineup and I was a bit disappointed. They only had a handful of HD channels, more than half of which were available over-the-air. But he assured me that they planned to add many more HD channels over the next couple of years. I believed him because actually there weren't that many channels offering HD back then anyway. So here we are now...they have added 4 HD channels and took 2 away. How pathetic. I just got a letter from them the other day that says that along with my annual rate increase, we're getting 2 new HD channels! Woopty freakin' do!
DirecTV definitely has the lead in the HD race. Dish Network isn't too bad, but they pad their numbers with several channels that few people have even heard of.
Actually I don't even watch much TV, but on the rare occasion that I do, I want to have something decent to watch. As long as I have Discovery Channel I'm happy. The kids have to have their daily dose of Spongebob and Hannah Montana, and my wife likes the old movies. Sports on HD is incredible too. Oh well, I think I'm going to give DirecTV a call now...
