You want to know how to make LED strobes or how to hook them up to 595?

If it's how to make strobes,....Try this (http://crazylightlady.us/LEDStrobes.html)

I guess I misunderstood the use of the word strobe.

We call them strobes, but they really are single LED's. If you make them flash fast, you get a strobe effect. You could make them stay on as long as you want.
As for pictures, there were none submitted with the how-to.
I will see if I can get you some.

I have also done some LED strobes using EPOXY and driving them directly from a Grinch
I posted a couple of videos on My Journey thread:

The effect can be displayed on the bottom of the page for the link I sent you. You can also see it on the tail end of this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g3NzWiuC7pE). In this example Richard uses the normal method. These strobes fit in a C9 sting and random flash at approx 2-3 per second when activated. They run about 7-9 dollars "A PIECE" though. You can find them here (http://www.christmaslightshow.com/xcart/strobe-lights-Outdoor%20Christmas%20Decorations-c-11.html)

The poor man's method is the route I'll be going (which is LEDs) The effect can be displayed as I said at the bottom of the page in the video on How tos at CCL's website. (See post above for the link) The great thing about using LEDS and the 595 is you can power them right off the board!
