When wiring up your display you may want to remember some of these pics as inspiration for laying the cabling out neatly!
http://royal.pingdom.com/?p=240
If you do not get inspiration from the above you may wind up with something like this: http://royal.pingdom.com/?p=234 and http://www.vibrant.com/cable-messes.php
All you IT guys out there, just remember these are pictures and not necessarily a practical way to wire up a rack.

Unfortunately, there are more pictures of the latter, as it's more prevalent.
Sure makes wireless look even more attractive.

This image gives me fond memories. ;) The picture is labeled "sound cable" but in reality this is lighting cable. While I tried to keep things tidy for my shows it’s pretty easy for things to get out of hand when you are short on time.
The colored connectors on the bottom of each rack are called cam-locs and supply power to the dimmer racks (3-phase 400A). This power cable is referred to as "feeder cable." The black connectors above are called Veam or Socapex (soc-o) which is a multi-pin and ultimately mutli-conductor cable that leads to the actual lights. Once this cable reaches the lights you can either break them out to individual connectors with a "fan-out" or it plugs directly into a prewired lamp/fixture bar.

A wire tie gun is a great investment.................

That looks a lot like behind my desk! I got cables back there that aren't even hooked-up to anything anymore. I just didn't think that extraction from "the pile" was worth the effort.

Not in my datacenter does cable get messy!! Nor does my christmas lights.. Oddly, thats what happens when you run a topology thats a chain rather than a star... the key is *distribute* your cabling out.. Don't clump it all into one place.

Star...bah!...My topology is based on a ditrigonal dodecahedron.

Try looking Here (http://mathworld.wolfram.com/DitrigonalDodecadodecahedron.html)
We Texans understand such things....it's just made up of a bunch of Lone Stars put together.....

I am looking there and reading the description but I can not even pronounce some of the words let alone understand them.
"The uniform polyhedron U_(41), also called the ditrigonal dodecahedron, whose dual polyhedron is the medial triambic icosahedron. It has Wythoff symbol 3|5/35. Its faces are 12{5/2}+12{5}. It is a faceted version of the small ditrigonal icosidodecahedron. The circumradius for unit edge length is
R=1/2sqrt(3). "

Hmmmm....looks like we'll need to add a pronunciation button next to this when RL adds it to the glossary!!

Now im very happy because now i know what a Ditridiculithion is i can sleep knowing that i dont need another science or mathematical class for another 12 months:)
looks like I will have to show you guys my color coded setup when I get it finished. My dad basically said,"dont cut or do anything to drywall or structural integrity and you can have the underside of the house for your lighting "bull sh!t" as he put it
So I plan on putting my 2 grinches, Ren-C's, Ren-T's and my FM transmitter under there Lots of wires but it will look cool when done. One thing I need to do is dig it out so I can move without hitting my back and head every 16 or 24" (whatever joists are)

Floor joists are not important.
Saw and hack into those to get that much needed lighting improvement installed!!!
(Ben, just kidding. You saw those and the house may just fall into the crawl space thereby destroying those much needed lighting improvements!)

I got a headache just trying to read it.

no no, I meant whatever the spacing on joists are. Studs are 16" on center, Joists are 24" on center I think etc. :p

Those pics of tidy cable are actually (dare I say it) beautiful – they remind me of those medical pictures/dummies you see that show bare muscle, especially the one using the orange cable. I’m thinking I could actually make my setup look like a work of art! Although you’d think I’d be practical like ben suggested (colour coding and what not), no, I’m going to make mine pretty! Hand me a cat5 cable in every colour.
Thanks for sharing those links brian. In all seriousness, it’s good to see what tidy cabling looks like on a large scale.

See I was going to color code it by controller. Grinch 1 Blue, Grinch 2, Yellow, Mega tree Renards Red, LED panel Grey etc.

Reading my Spiceworks update I came across this - and was reminded of this particular thread. It's always heart warming to see others are messier than you, and depressing that there are more that are way more tidy.
