Ordered 6 samples and the request has been forwarded to "the sales office in your area for approval. "

The sales office in my area turns out to be Analog Electronics in Melbourne, so I guess I'll be hearing from them, ;)

This is the same place I am stuck with, I have written to Allegor and told them the Analog is not fullfilling the requests.

Just sent an enquiry to www.semico.com.au as well. They are Sydney based.

Just found a phone number as well, so I will contact them during the week also.

John,

Is this the supplier that would stock the parts and are they dragging their feet. A bunch of us have said we would like to order them if we could only find a supplier. I don't think this is a money issue for any of us, we would buy these.

I ordered 6 on Thursday, Friday got an e-mail that they had processed and were on their way.

I already have a pile of MBI chips so I am interested in seeing if there is a diff that I can detect. If so I will work on getting the MBI chips replaced with the Allegro chips ASAP.

I used allegro chips on my ledtriks and yesterday it stopped working. I am not sure if it is the chips or something else. Everything was working fine until about a week ago when I started getting random leds turning on during the sequence making it almost impossible to read. I checked all my connections and fixed any leds that had stopped working and it didn't make any change. How can I check the different chips to see if they are working properly without having any extra chips to do a replace and see kinda check.

Nothing lights up on the pannel at all Dead? Try rotating a couple of the Chips maybe?

If you have power going to the board I would be suspicious of 3 chips dying all at once. But if the controller chip (74HC4514) fails I think it would quit working all together.

I would check the power first, the controller chip would be the next suspect.

I can't get to my allegro chips until wedensday but I will send you 3 then if you want.

I ordered 6 way back in July, July 25. I got an E-Mail the next day. I thought they got lost or something because they never arrived. I figured I would wait until after Christmas to try again. To my surprise they arrived today October 26th; 3 months + 1 day later. Unfortunately they only sent 4 IC’s not 6. Oh-well 4 is better than zero! Now I got a new project to play with.

To order a sample for chip A6279EA-T go to Allegro's website here:

http://www.allegromicro.com/en/Products/Part_Numbers/6278/

Scroll to the bottom and click on the order sample button for the chip listed above.

I ordered some two weeks ago but haven't received them yet.

I see this is starting to be hit and miss. I had two friends order them... one got 'em and the other didn't. I thought about looking into it a bit, but the friends were a little bit shaky about doing it to begin with. Has anyone that didn't get a sample, email or call to find out why?

I'd like to get 4 more chips and share the extras, but I'm not sure if it's worth getting another friend to try it for me...

I put an order in on 12/26, received an email that they were processing on 12/27. No chips yet. Nu Horizons indicated they will have 2000 chips after the first of February. I put in an order for 90. If they arrive, I will have extra to sell at my cost plus shipping. Retail without shipping is $1.15.

Just FYI, I ordered 6 sample A6279AE-T chips on the 11th. I received an email in a few minutes saying that it was approved, and they were even shipped the same day. I had them a few days later. But what they shipped was 4 sample A6276AE-T chips. From what I'm reading they should be compatible with the LEDtriks, and 4 is better than none!

Later. . . . .. . Brad

There have been a couple of others in Oz who have received their samples already.

I just put through the order exactly as the first post in this thread states.

The ordering form does ask for a bit of information about what you want to use them for.
This is what i put down:

Program Information:
Project Name:
Market: CONSUMER
Application: LIGHTING CONTROL
Design Cycle: 3 to 6 months
Annual Usage: 1

I got an email back in a week (took a while because it was around New Years) saying that my request had been postponed and forwarded to my local sales office for them to approve.
Three days later i got an email saying my order was on its way.
12 days later my order arrived.

All this = one happy young man.
Now, must get around to ordering boards, components, led's...

you sure it's the 6278 and not the 6279 (that's a 24p package)

difference between the 2 is the number of sink drivers 6278 = 8 and 6279 = 16 .

Microchip currently only accepts online sample orders from registered business or university email addresses. We currently do not accept orders from generic ISP accounts. Please do one of the following:
1. Register with a valid business or university email address and place your sample order

From my experiences, they'll probably figure we are a global corporation with multiple locations, the opportunity is huge so they will send us even more samples and send them next day so they can impress the "giant potential customer".

Order a sample - A6279EA-T (six is the max you can get)

http://www.allegromicro.com/en/Products/Part_Numbers/6278/

John.

One thing to consider is that the A6276EA-T can also be used in place of the A6279EA-T.

The only difference is the A6279 has open LED detection and the A6276 does not.

The Grinch and LEDTriks designs don't use the open LED feature, so this makes the A6276 a viable substitute if the A6279 can't be located.

A quick check on the Allegro site shows that Newark has 5321 of the A6276EA-T in stock.

Lots of companies will send you samples, http://www.instructables.com/id/Free_Electronic_Samples/
has a lot of vendors listed that have samples, it just so happens that I already have enough optoisolators from fairchild to build the Renard 16 without needing to purchase any. And the PIC16F688's Most of them want you to have a company, and want to know what you are doing with them. Most will send via UPS or FedEX. TI will even send FedEX overnight.

Another great place to find bulk cheap components is ebay. The local Radio Shack get $1.99 for a 5 pack of 1k resistors, however I ordered 100 of them on ebay for $1.99 with FREE SHIPPING, item 260520321620 . Coming from China, and takes a few weeks, but since I use a lot of these, its worth the money saved.

Hope this give some good info to everyone,
James
