For those of you out there that, like me, know just enough about electronics to be dangerous / harmful…(a song comes to mind, “Burnin’ Down the House”).
Here are some charts, tables that you may find helpful.
For those of you that are more dangerous (experienced) they may help.
The Ohm Table, in my humble opinion, is the most important. It shows the mathematical relationship between Volts, Amps, Ohms, (resistance), and Power.
There is a resistor color code saying, (there are many versions) to help remember what those colored strips mean. One is: Bad Boys Race Our Young Girls But Violence Generally Wins. The first letter of the each word represents a color as follows: Black, Brown, Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Violet, Grey. Additionally, each color represents a number (multiplier). 0 thru 9 respectively starting with Black = 0, Brown = 1 and so on. A quick look at the chart should make this clear.
Two colors are not represented in my version of the color code memorization saying, Silver and Gold. They are the “tolerance “ band colors. Tolerance is a percentage of the calculated value not to be exceeded, when measured.

Ok. That’s everything I know about electronics…(heh,heh)
Hope it’s of some value.

There's also a cool online tool for finding the resistor colors posted here:

ppohlman,

Yeah. That's a great on-line calculator. I found one a year or so ago to calc cap's. I didn't save it for some reason.

Brian,

I have no problems posting these, (except for a lack of computer skills), on the WIKi. I would feel honored to contribute to the WiKi page. If it is as easy as posting to this forum I can do it. I have a few more, but didn't post cause of 5 upload limit.

if you want to you can steal electricity from the supply authority using that inductance formula... a couple of people in aus have done it before... they got caught in the end though LOL

Sounds like a good topic for a "How To". LOL

I have seen this chart before. Correct me if I am wrong, but the top resistor is 22K, not the 56K it states on the chart. If it was 56k, then the resistor would be Green/Blue/Orange/Tolerance.

beatlerat,

Lou (Lbro) pointed that out. I never noticed the 56k on the upper right of the chart. It is a 22k resistor, I did not make the chart, just thought I would pass it on....guess I had better look closer next time.
