View Full Version : Reuse your "bad" cat5!

I wanted to do some prototyping today for some ideas for next year. I didn't want to blow through hundreds of wire ties. Remembering how some of the commercial tower crews attach things (on a larger scale of course), I saw a chunk of bad cat5 lying on the floor. I'm not sure how I saw it through the rest of the pile, but that's another story....
So, I stripped it down to individual strands and used it to make wire ties. I don't know how it would hold up outdoors for an extended period of time, but for testing purposes, it's a great way of recycling and not wasting wire ties.

It also makes for a great toothpick, jumper wires for an experimenter board and solder-on wires to repair a circuitboard.

Toothpicks??? Must have been a bad night of Lutfisk... then again with lutfisk is there a good night?

Great idea... think the only thing that could co wrong is the copper breaks were it's twisted.

I've seen wire frames store bought with bread ties holding lights on.. so why not???
