View Full Version : HLS will not let me compile for output

Since version 10T I have not had much luck getting my sequences to compile for output. The program keeps crashing either just as I click on the compile for output button or very soon after. I have tried opening my sequences and rebuilding the effects database and going into raw channels and renumbering for output. I am still running an older version on my show computer.

Please run 10Y.

When you say crash - is my crash report coming up.

If so ... please add a comment about this and what you were doing.

Restart HLS ... don't open any sequences --- if you computer is on the Internet --- that crash report will be sent to me and I can see what is happening.

If no Internet --- send me the crash report.

I need you to do this with 10Y so I can debug it.

Thanks.

Joe

Just a thought on this one .
Is it actually crashing or just looks like its not doing anything ?
If you click on a window does it say HLS not responding ?

If the above is true it is just thinking . My bigger sequences take about 5 minutes from when I hit the compile button to the next screen . In this time HLS just looks at me blankly .

Please run 11B.

If you get a crash report - please write what you were doing to help me understand.

After a crash where I bring up a report screen - Please restart HLS - you don't need to load a sequence.

Leave it up a minute or two - during which time the report will be emailed to me.

In the meantime - what are doing to cause the crash?

Thanks.

The program sent 3 different crash reports from three different sequences. They would have sent sooner, but for some reason 11c created the crash .dmp and txt files in the sequence subdirectory instead of the root. When I cut and pasted them one set at a time to the root of HLS and then started the program, the files disappeared. I assume that it was the program phoning home...

Thanks for the work that you put into the program Joe. Let me know if you need anything else. 11c is at least exporting the sequences, it is now crashing when I try to close the export screen back to the main screen.

Please take a picture of what the Universe Dialog window looks like prior to pressing the Export Button.

Sounds like you don't have something set up correctly.

Do I see this correct that your Universe 2 has 783 channels ? DMX Universes only have a max of 512, that may be your problem

Thought there was a DMX/Universe limit of 512 which equates to roughly 170 RGB pixels..

But would think you should be getting a ch 2 big error

I cannot figure out how that is possible , unless pixelnet/etherdongle causes this ?

Is that screener photo shopped ?

No photo shop. There is pixelnet for universe 2

Pixelnet expands each universe to 4096 channels. This is the configuration that my show has been from day 1. The output compiled fine until 10t. 10s is currently running my show on a different computer. I know 10t made changes and required recompile. That was when it started.

NOW I got some information I can sink my teeth into.

This will be resolved today.

Mirmir is using RJ's Etherdongle.

THAT allows 4096 channels to be treated as ONE.

HLS divides that into the proper number of E131 universes when exported.

A picture is worth a million words.

Once I got the big picture - identifying root-cause and resolving it was easy.

Version 11D resolves this.

That 's what I'm talk'n bout folks. Two hours and 59 minutes after Joe gets the info on a solid issue he has a fix and a new version ready to download! All that on Christmas Eve!! Show me another sequencing software with anything that comes close to that kind of support. Merry Christmas Joe. I can't thank you enough for your gift of HLS.

Joe,

You are the MAN! I downloaded 11D this morning and can confirm that it indeed resolved the issue!

Cannot thank you enough for the work you have done on HLS. It is a fantastic piece of software. I appreciate your patients working through this problem with me.

Merry Christmas!
