View Full Version : HLS will not play the final playlist on my Schedule

I have a playlist that is supposed to play at 11:55pm to 12:00pm playonce. It is a blank sequence and its only purpose is to turn off all of my lights. But for some reason HLS will not play this playlist on my schedule. It will run it fine if I play it manually. I looked at the schedule XML file and it looks like that might be the problem, it showed an event that starts at zero and ends at zero (I might have been looking at the wrong space).

Here (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3177444/no_off.zip) are all my playlists and data files if they can help debug this issue.

BTW, I'd like to turn my lights off later at say 1am every night. I originally had my schedule look like this for all days:

1. No Music (12:00am to 1am)
2. All off (at 1am)
3. Play all (4:30pm to 10:30pm)
4. No Music (10:30pm to 12:00pm)

and this too had problems. How can someone play a playlist over Midnight?

What version are you using? Joe just fixed a bug with a new version 10T

Thanks Ron - that was going to be my question.

Well done.

Steve:

A Show is scheduled by Day of Week.

The Show will terminate at midnight and then restart at the first timed event the next day.

I'm using 10M. I tried yesterday to upgrade to 10R and my schedule failed to load, so I went back to 10M and it all started working again. I'll try 10T and see if that solves the problem. Assuming that this fails again tonight, would the debug file help you troubleshoot it? should I turn on debug?

10T will not fail - have faith young man!

I just downloaded 10T to setup the schedule I list above.

1. No Music (12:00am to 1:30am)
2. All off (at 1:30am)
3. Play all (4:30pm to 10:30pm)
4. No Music (10:30pm to 12:00pm)

But HLS would not let me choose 12:00am as a starting time for my first entry.

Yes - THAT time is ZERO - which is also "No Time" -- so first time of the day is 0:05.

I just want to make sure I collect the data if it does not play, because this only happens once a night at my house. BTW it looks like you added a new option "Active Debug". What does this do? I turned it on and told HLS to also write out a debug file.

Don't do that unless I tell you to.

I collect data for every data packet transmitted - NOT what you are interested in. It will slow you down slightly and build a very big file that will not help.

Well it's 10:50pm here and HLS stopped playing my schedule. BTW I like that the text window now says when it is playing what songs. Tonight it said "Show Halted at 10:26pm"

Perhaps this is related to the fact that I have one song that is in both playlists

My schedule is:
4:30-10:25 play a playList that consists of

1. Sleigh Ride
2. Bell Medley
3. Wizards in WInter
4. Intermission

Then at 10:25 it should switch to playing a playlist that includes

1. Intermission

Until 12:00pm

Would this cause HLS not to load the playlist? Can I both end a playlist at 10:25pm and start my next playlist at 10:25pm? I don't want to have a 5 minute dead space between these sequences, but perhaps that is the problem.

More clues, I just restarted HLS at 11:06pm and said to "Play Schedule"...and it is not doing anything. All my lights are off.

Does HLS support schedules that end on midnight? It doesn't appear so. When I change my schedule to 10:25-11:55 it works, but if I have it end at midnight HLS won't work. So that means I'll have to have 10 minutes of dead time during my schedule, from 11:55pm to 12:05am...since you mentioned that HLS does not support schedules that start at 12:00am.

As a workaround I could just make one long schedule that starts at 4:30pm and looks something like this

1. Sleigh Ride
2. Bell Medley
3. Wizards in WInter
4. Intermission
5. Sleigh Ride
6. Bell Medley
7. Wizards in WInter
8. Intermission
9. Sleigh Ride
10. Bell Medley
11. Wizards in WInter
12. Intermission
...
20. Sleigh Ride
21. Bell Medley
22. Wizards in WInter
23. Intermission
24. All Off

But I'm curious, assuming I have a show scheduled for every day of the week (because I do) will HLS allow me to run a long sequence that passes over the midnight time into another day? With your new pre-caching changes would this sort of Playlist be okay to run?

Steve:

The show ended at 11:26 because you were in the middle of a song at 11:25 - and that song did not end until 11:26.

Just for YOU - I will look into putting in two more times because midnight is :0:0:0 - beginning of a day.

End time (just before midnight) will be 11:59:59 and start (just after midnight) will be 0:0:1.

I never thought anyone would be playing lights all night long - I thought wrong.

Joe

Now I'm either confused or not explaining my situation well. In the schedule UI there is 4 boxes per day of the week. I'll call these PlayList Slots 1-4. My schedule it this for all days:

Slot 1 = 12:05am - 1:30am Playlist = "Intermission" (this is just my lights animating without music)
Slot 2 = 1:35am PlayOnce Playlist = "All Off" (this is a sequence that just makes sure all of my lights are turned off)
Slot 3 = 4:30pm - 10:25pm Playlist = "My show" (This is where my lights are animated to music, 3 songs and my intermission sequence)
Slot 4 = 10:25pm - 11:55pm Playlist = "Intermission" (now we switch to only showing the intermission sequence...no audio)

So at 4:30pm HLS starts to play "My Show" and repeats itself until 10:26pm. It does NOT play the rest of my schedule. Are you saying that HLS will not move to the next scheduled events unless it is idle at the start time for that slot? So in my case the sequences I wanted to play in Slot 4 from 10:25pm to 11:55pm never starts because HLS was busy at 10:25pm

Don't worry about making those changes if I am the only one who keeps their lights on past midnight. I think today I'm going to move to a PlayOnce schedule, that should solve my problems. It just means I need to have one LONG scheduled playlist that is like 9 hours long.

I've made recent changes to Show.

I will have to check again - starting a new PL at the same time as ending one should work by design.

I may have made my first mistake this year.

I'll have to look into it.

I just tested using the code that will be released shortly.

Works to intent.

Check it out when I release it.

End and Start times CAN be the same for adjacent events.

I implemented two additional times.

0:0:1 for 1 sec after midnight

11:59:59 PM for 1 sec before midnight

Thanks Joe> I've downloaded 10U and set my schedule to:

1. 0:0:01 to 1:30am - Intermission (no audio)
2. 1:35am - 1:40am - All Off (utility sequence that just turns all the lights off)
3. 4:30pm - 10:30pm - Musical Show (3 songs + intermission sequences)
4. 10:30pm - 11:59:59 - Intermission (no audio)

I'll let you know if it works. -=Steve

I just got home and the lights are not working properly. I had seen in another thread that you said we had to re-sxport the songs, so I did that and updated the schedule...but now my sequences are not playing correctly. They start fine, but then about half way through they stop and some lights start showing the wrong colors, etc.

I am going to downgrade back to 10M (which I know works)...for the rest of tonight.

szaske

ACK! It looks like you cannot downgrade. HLS 10M will load my sequences, but it does not display them in editor.

well downgraded to 10T and it looks like I'm working. I'm not sure I'll be able to test the schedule though. I'm not sure 10T will know what to do with this new schedule.
