View Full Version : We did it

Okay, we are here. This is the permanent home for DIYC. It look different and functions differently as well. It is going to take some time to get things back in order and for all of you to get used to the new functionality. I will be working on things as the days go on but the hardest part is complete, the data migration.

Statistics:
With every move there is always a few small bumps. Below is a list of some of them.

We lost 5 users out of over 1200. They did not import for some reason. They can just register a new account.

We lost 135 attachments out of over 1,000.

We did not lose any threads or posts.

You will have to upload a new avatar, they did not import.

You should also go into your profile to verify and adjust all settings to make sure they are accurate.

The chat is still live on the old server. I will get that moved soon too, maybe today.

I have more work to do to get things back in order so please bear with me for a few days. Things may look a little different each time you visit for the next few days as I will be re-organizing things to the way they were, for now.

Thank you to each and every one of you for your cooperation, patience and understanding during the transition. This would not have been possible without your help.

also check some of the user names to posts - looks like some possible cross-linking of usernames. In the power /electric forum the been shocked post is from (page 2) kiwi, but, signed from Jeffmill

Hi Brian,

Congrats and many thanks for your hard work.

I had a slight scare and laugh.

When I login for the first time a screen popped up saying I was banned forever with no reason. So hoping it was a glitch I refresh the site and its back to normal.

I feel better now. :)

Brian,

One thing of big significance (to me anyway though I'm sure others as well) is PM box size. For instance, I wasn't maxed out on the old forums, though here I am 100% full -- even after I've deleted approximately 60 PM's. Unless of course the change was intended, then, I'll just let people know now that I cannot receive PM's as my box is full (how full I don't know - though given I've deleted atleast 60 PM's thusfar and it's still 100% I'd have to say I am -really- full). lol

Hopefully that is a setting he will adjust up. Currently PMs are limited to 50 (both inbox and outbox) apparently.

Yep, the forums send an email informing that so-and-so attempted to PM me. My email should be in my profile (since it knows where to send me an email) using the email function from the forums should work (for me and anyone else experiencing the issue for now as well).

Though you'll have to ensure you have this enabled (if you want to of course):

Go to "UserCP" then go to "Edit Options" then in the "Messaging & Notifications" section

"You can allow other members to send you email messages."

Check mark the "Receive Email from Other Members" box.

If your inbox is full and you want to save the messages you can download them as a text file, CSV (Excel) file or an XML file than save that to your computer and clear out your PM box.

"Download all Private Messages as:
XML | CSV | Text"

That is an option I know, though I'd definitely prefer to keep them in there. :/

Glad it went well, Brian. One thing, though. Is there a way to display threads the way the old forum did, with the poster's info on the left, instead of having the page broken up at each post? I can't find a way to do it in the usercp.

I like it. As an old person (43) I prefer the color scheme as I can read it without my reading glasses. I have been on other vBulletin boards before and they seem to work well for me. Keep up all the great work you guys are doing.

Thanks,
Buzz

Notice the part that is outlined in red. That used to be over on the left-hand side.

Thats just one of the differences between phpbb and vBulletin. Something we are all going to have to get used to, among other things.

Sorry.

There's a way to do it. mp3car.com uses the same version of vBulletin, and they have it set up that way.

Brian,
I am not seeing a link to the Wiki anymore. Am I missing it?
Thanks.

Brian, not to say your wrong, but Blurp is right

you can change the Inormation bar to the side instead of across the top, i did look threw the vbulletin guide, and i can see why you would think its not in there, i could not see it, then agian the guide just touches on a few things and without the control panel you cant dig into it.

If it is something you would want to do, i will talk to some people, or im sure someone here probably knows how to do it.

JaysonH

I am not sure what you are referring to.

This can be done via skins (more complex skins than just changing colors thus calling them 1schemes). http://www.extremepixels.com/ is a good source of vBulletin skins.

My guess is once the functionality bugs are hammered out (Brian seems to be kicking butt in that department already) is maybe he'll make multiple skins available. That way a user can pick which one they like.

blurp
01-21-2008, 07:06 PM
Yeah, I'm not trying to gripe. I actually thought that it was something I was supposed to do in UserCP, just couldn't find it. Maybe it is the multiple skin option.

WOW!!! I leave town for a week and come back to this. The change looks nice, although I'm still trying to find my way around. It's basically the same thing with some minor changes.

Thanks Brian for all that you're doing.
