My son and I were working on a sequence to a song in HLS that was over four minutes long. We already had about 1:30 done of the song and we decided to shorten the song. We shortened the mp3 in audacity and then loaded it as a new sequence and then tried several different methods to get all of the previous sequencing into the new song sequence. We tried cut copy and pasting but we weren't able to do that. The last attempt we made was to try and save all the work we did as an effect and import the effect into the new sequence and that was unsuccessful. The original sequence opens up but it doesn't display any of the sequencing. Is there any way to get the old work back?

Hls makes copies of sequences ,here is what the original and a copy look like in the hls folder

to get the copy set as the original change the file name as shown below in the hls folder .

original = 5050.hls <<<<<Change extension >>>> 5050.hls .#1

copy = 5050.hls.114172_54935.hls <<< delete the extension after .hls >>>>> 5050.hls

all the currently used sequences will appear as you named them when you created them. They will have the .hls extension only .

The copies will have large numbered extensions .

hope this is clear .

If the effects are not visible its because the database is no longer associated with the sequence name.

A complete HLS sequence consists of two main files. The xxx.HLS sequence control file and the xxx_EFFECTS.dat database file.

It sounds like the database file is no longer named correctly.

Alright. Is there any way to recover this?

Go into the sequence folder.

What are the exact names of the following files:

The dot HLS
The dot DAT

Jingle Bell Anthem.HLS and Jingle Bell anthem_EFFECTS.dat

rename Jingle Bell Anthem.HLS to >>>>Jingle Bell Anthem.HLS.4444444

then delete the extension of ( pick any 1 ) any of the copies of Jingle Bell Anthem.HLS.******** to look like the original Jingle Bell Anthem.HLS

there should be no errors while renaming a file unless your doing something wrong .

I resolved it for them

Window's 7 by defaults hides file extensions and won't let you rename them if required.

Their HLS file was actually xxx.hls.hls1

You can change Window's behavior in the Control Panel - Folders.

You can recover to your last SAVED location.

Did you do a SAVE anytime after you started your HLS Session?

If so ... instead of selecting your current HLS file ... use the other menu under FILE to select your last SAVED version.

Hope that helps.

Tom, without knowing exactly what your current issue is, I would start up HLS, (Run as Administrator) and reopen your sequence. if neede allow the effects rebuild.

Thanks for the replies. I knew better. I even thought about it a few times, but I did not save it. I am so BLEEPIN mad at myself......had some cool stuff in there too. Lesson learned.
