Okay, I've been lurking a while and thanks to the smart people here have been able to animate my display Christmas of '06 and '07 which my 2 sons have decided will be a family tradition for us. Taking part in some coops in 2006, this past year I was running 2 595's (only 98 channels used) and now I want dimming - got Ren-C's coming (thanks John) and a Ren-T (thanks Wayne) but with the 14,000 lights I grabbed the last few weeks, 128 channels are not enough. So I want to jump in on the Ren24 coop for more.

My question is, with the differences in the levels of dimming between the Ren-C and the Ren24, will I have difficulty with that set up, or will Vixen take care of that by using percentages? I know I will need to use multiple serial ports, but if I put 128 channels on one with Ren-C/595 and then another 72 using Ren24 on a second port, will I have any issues with dimming? I could be as wrong as rain, but from my reading, I am under the belief that the Ren-C has 192 levels of dimming and the Ren24 has 255.

Sorry, but I did not see that addressed here or in the wiki (but with my dial-up connection it takes too long to read everything).

Thanks again for everything that I have learned as well as participation in the coops due to great people in this community.

I haven't done any formal dimming profile comparisons between the Ren24 and the Ren-C. The intention for the Ren-C firmware, though, is to make it appear as close as possible to the results of the other Renard firmware. So 100% should be the same brightness with each controller, 90% brightness should be very close to the same, and similarly all the way down the scale.

Thanks Phil.

If there is a slight difference, I'll be able to separate the elements so that I am the only one who would even notice. My fear was that there would be compatibility issues due to the levels that would prevent me from even using such a set up.
