I've seen a few members' websites since I joined DIYC and I am interested in setting up my own website. I know there's a number of web page software makers out there and a plethora of web hosting sites. Can anyone recommend a good web hosting company that is inexpensive and includes decent web page making capabilities? Obviously the cheaper the better.

As far as HTML editor software goes, I use Evrsoft - 1st Page 2000 - Free edition. It's completely free although there is a nag screen that appears for a few seconds at startup/exit. I like it though for editing my web pages and don't mind the short wait.

If you've never written HTML code, or any web based code before, I would suggest looking around a few of the tutorial websites. One I like and refer to is :
http://www.w3schools.com/default.asp
They've got examples and instructions for HTML, CSS, JS, ASP, PHP, SQL, etc.... A source of good information.
I have done some research on hosting companies I've liked (I plan to put up a site for my display as well), but I can't comment on them because I haven't actually used them. I like Google Page Creator for hosting simple HTML pages though, because it's free, no ads, and reliable.

I use GoDaddy for hosting and my domain names. I have used 1&1 in the past but I did not have a good customer service experience with them. It may have been because of my inexperience at the time. I know of some people who love them.
As for html I use Microsoft Front Page. I have used a free clone called First Page but it was not too great. You can use Wordpad in a jam but I would suggest you look into a real editor.
I would also suggest you get an FTP client. I use Core FTP LT and love it. I was using Cute FTP but it is a little pricey for me. Core FTP is free and works very well, I actually like it better than Cute FTP .

I've used different hosts in the past, and I've had far superior results with GoDaddy. Many more features, and probably the best bang for the buck. I've also been very impressed with their tech support line. And I'm not easily impressed by tech support.

I use Host Excellence - I have 12 domains hosted by them and have 1 control panel to set up mail, permissions, etc...

I forgot to mention that I use GoDaddy as well. They seemed to be the cheapest at the time of registering the domain name.

I'm using 1and1 myself - I was on godaddy - but - had to switch due to some php scripting that I was doing and that there was (no) simple way around the codes I needed to run.

I use Kalypsoweb for mine, and even their base package has more than enough data for my 3 websites and forum - it will be moved over in the next few weeks.
Like mkc123 it gives me 1 control panel to set everything up from, and I like that.

Thanks for the replies.
fastdomain.com is what our church is using, pretty good prices, and nice control panel. They offer alot of script for free, and then you can buy alot of things.
As far as editor, i use Dreamweaver, but its pricey. Frontpage is pretty good for the average person, and is easier to use if you are new. Coffe cup html is also pretty decent and if i remember its price is good.
