Hi, I'm new to the site, the forum, the concept of running eleventy-billion lights from a PC....I'm an R&D engineer by day and a part-time business hack at night. I do PCB layout, audio equipment design and bascially eat and breathe electronics. Makes the day job go by faster...

I'm here because of my wife. She thinks I need a hobby. She literally asked me to look into doing "something like that" when on YouTube one evening. I had to ask if she was feeling OK, because I seriously couldn't believe she'd really want something like that on our house. "Yeah...you need a hobby that we both enjoy."

Riiight, we'll see about that!!!

Welcome Aaron!

Last year (Christmas 2006) my wife took a bet about decorating before I could even take a breath to speak. Blank check . . . Right?!? Well almost.

Good luck!

Aaron,

Same here. While I was in the middle of setting up for 2007 (my first year), my wife says "I haven't seen you like this years! You needed a hobby". It's a lot of work but when you get feedback from your family, friends, and people you don't even know, you'll feel like it was well worth the work. I even had people from down the street that I don't know come to my house after new years with home baked brownies & a thank you card signed the entire family & friends. As she handed me the brownies, she thanked us for bringing a little extra Christmas cheer to their holiday. Talk about motivation to do more in 2008!

If anyone here ever talks to my wife about this hoby..... say nothing about the cost. I just tell her a few dollars here...a few dollars there... it's not too bad.

... If she only knew lol

When I told my wife what I wanted to do for 2008 she was all for it. She said, "What are we lookin' at, a couple hundred bucks?" ROFLMAO!

I said, "oh yea, three hundred, tops!"

Yeah I told the wife I'd probably add $2000 worth of gear to this years display. So far, and its only Feb 19th, I am up to $1,753, with a renard to populate, the megatree to buy, cases to buy, wire to get, 350 feet of rope light as well, and a heap more SSR's to build.

I think I'll be a little over budget. :D
