View Full Version : Max voltaage on P2 of an olsen 595

What is the max volts on the P2 power input on an Olsen 595 board? I want to use some wall warts I have that are 5.4 volts form some old PDAs. I'm using brick type SSRs that have a control voltage of 3-33 volts. I have used the 5 volts from 2 computer power supplies in the past but they will not fit in the controller box. The wiki doesn't mention any limits on the P2 power, but with it running through the chips can't be to high... Olsen 595 board version 2.4.1 -Thanks for your help!

May be OK. Did you measure 5.4v or is that what the wall warts say?
Most ttl chips have a Max voltage of 5.5v. If you measure more than 5.4v, I would place series diodes 1N4002s etc to drop it to 5.2 Max.

Unless you are absolutely positive that those wall-warts produce a regulated DC output, I wouldn't do it. The output from a wall-wart that doesn't say 'regulated' is likely unregulated, in which case it could range up to 9V or so with no load.

The fact that the output voltage is 5.4V (as opposed to 5V) leads me to think that they are not regulated,

So P2 does not serve a duel voltage function, it is strictly another way to get regulated 5 volts on the card and into the SSRs. Thanks again for your quick responses! Anyone know where I can locate a RenT/RenC for my Olsen 595s?
