Shuttng down lively forums is not a good way of running a good forum.. I did'nt see anyone making personal attack ( well if they were it was pretty mild )....

Stopping the people from expressing their views and opinions is a sure fire way of starting a revolt..

Thread locked until further review is made

The question that jrock posted:

On that note it could be said that that our purpose is the development of open source holiday lighting controllers and accessories.
Do we need to create a GPL for DIYC.
The key components being.
Everything available on this site is free for individual use.
In return we ask that you submit any improvements that you make so the entire community can benefit.
Any development done with the assistance of DIYC becomes open source.
Absolutely no information on this site shall be used for commercial gain.

has not really been answered in this post, and this post is getting off topic. This is not an attempt to censor anyone one, but, this is to allow Brian an opportunity to look at and review this thread so that a decision can be made. Threads like this create conflit.

We do not want to be like our "friends" at planet christmas, and have tons of topics "disappear" because someone does not like what was said.

dissapearing messages would be truely insane...

I just want to know what the 'rules' are.. Cause if they dont' match what i want to do, then i'll have to find somewhere else to do it.. Which woudl be sad, cause there is a very good pool of talent here.

Is this a threat?

In a post you made about your project you stated you will not be offering blank pcbs and you will be selling assembled boards. If this is the case it is in direct violation of our rules. If this is the case you should find somewhere else to go.

No threat, just some sage advice.. I dont' have much to threaten you with really do I?

However thankyou for clarifying your position..

Unfortunately your forums don't fit with the way i want to do things.. My development projects wont' be constrained by a set of rules on a forumn. I can accept you have a position, and i dont' have any desire to deliberately break your rules in your forum. I hope you can accept my position as well..

I'll be sure to not post anything about my project anywhere on your forum.. If you don't mind i'd like to stay about and contribute to areas and subjects where we have some common ground.

Good luck with your endeavors in the future.

It's not a threat, it's an OBVIOUS reaction to what people view as oppressive rules.

If you read my threads for the last few days, I've said repeatedly that if you annoy people they leave.

The concept really is not that hard to understand is it?

HAHAHAH, I love how this argument comes up on every message board.

Freedom = real life

Dictatorship = private forum

Why would anyone want to change the way they designed their site because you don't agree with it? I wouldn't change my sites because I got a nasty email/pm from someone on the net that didn't agree with my direction of my own site.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

This is an interesting dialogue and informative. But I think the real issue here is not what is being discussed but instead how it is being discussed. Let us disagree without being disagreeable. Veiled threats and personnal attacks rarely move a group forward. This forum is about having fun and making the Christmas a little more fun for some of us. The tone in some of these comments is hardly Christmas like.

Im with Steve. If your not happy with things, no need to continue to tell everyone, no need trying to get the last word in and no need creating a disturbance and making alot of the new users wonder if they came to the right place.

To share or not share? Simple. Dont want to share 100% then dont post or suggest your ideas

To DIY or to have it pre fab'd? Simple. Dont be public about prefab and respect the site owners decision.

These discussions are getting old very fast and Im sure have gone alot further that what the original intention was ment to be. Lets move on and work on ideas for the 2008 season

Not meant to be oppressive by any means.

This community has experienced explosive growth, and is just having a few growing pains.

Some of the new members are are directing this community in new directions. Not necessarily good or bad, just different than how its been in the past.

As the forum creator Brian has the final say of deciding if these new ways are compatible or if he needs to create a few rules to nudge the group back to what HIS vision of this community should be for.

Nobody likes change. Especially if it was not part of the original plan.

at this point mrpackhead all you want to do is come in and cause conflict with people. You are constantly posting how you don't like this, you don't like that, everyone should do it your way or it should be the highway. You always keep posting censcorship, opression, communism when a post gets locked for whatever reason. Its OK for you to not likesomething, but, if someone else doesn't like it, well, tough, it should still go your way and censorship if it doesn't.

this shoud be discuss in PRIVATE BETWEEN YOU AND BRIAN

I would also assume that ever porn and drug message that gets deleted is also censorship. Boy what an opressive world we live in.

Thankyou for your useful contributions.. Open and constructive dialouge is normally the best way of doing things.

DMX + Pyrotechnics = No No by the people who wrote the DMX spec. Therefore, it isn't allowed. Unless you want to take legal responsibility.........no?
