I just checked all the other boards.

All the forumer boards(Vixen, PicDimmer, and LedTriks) all were running a Google adsense bar.
Even ComputerChristmas is running an adsense bar.

It is at the top and can be easily ignored.

I do not kow what kind of revenue these generate but it could help offset the domain registration and server costs etc.

This is not entirely bad eighter. These are targeted ads bases on the context of the page being displayed.
If we were talking about the LedTriks project and suppliers for LEDs and the shortage of the MBI chips there at the top of the page could be a possible new supplier that no one had yet discovered.

Its small and fairly non obtrusive. We could try it and if everyone would click on at least one ad per week we could later assess if it was worth while.

Joel,

Thanks for the suggestion. As I understand you theory personally I like a advertisement free site. With that being said this site in not just mine, it is ours. So lets see what the community has to say. If they want advertisement banners and such we will have them. If they say no then things will stay as they currently are. Now if funding becomes an issue in the future this suggestions may come into play if it is not implemented already.

I personally don’t like any ads. I run a full time ad blocker and likely wouldn’t see them anyway. To me, those banners are just as annoying as sales people that call me on the phone. 90 percent of the time my phone rings, it’s someone that wants to sell me something. When I need something, it’s pretty easy to find it with Google. If that’s not fruitful enough, a post is likely to get you what you need.

If Brian is in need of money to keep this site going, all he needs to do is ask for a donation. The last I heard, most people were willing to double or triple what ever he wanted.

I'll echo what Ernie says. No ads. If Brian wants the funds to be reimbursed, he knows where to go. Heck, I'd go 50/50 with him today if he wanted. Just keeps the ads out. I see enough of them elsewhere to choke a horse.

Thats why i like my Mozilla Firefox with AdBlock Plus. Every single add is blocked that has been confirmed as an ad by you or the maintainer of the ad list. any new one you can block too.

I would pony up to keep ads out.
