will vixen ever have a easy light linker made for it or is it possible to use the lor lgiht linker? because my nieghbors house acroos the street looks pretty nice to do lights on
thanks,
danny smith
Depends on what you consider easy. The remote client would do the job, but it requires both houses having access to the same local network (preferrably). It can be done over the internet, but the it would make it more likely to be done out of sync.

is there any way to use the easy light linkers from lor?

Nope. Anything from LOR goes with LOR only.

There are lots of possible ways to synchronize lights and music over a distance. Just ask the question over in the general hardware section, as this is not really a vixen-specific question.

Check mouser - they made wireless "modems" which can be used with the renard boards quite simply.
F Y I - the light linker is basically a wireless modem.

The ones that I saw in mouser were expensive (although no more so than the light linker).
Depending on distance, one possibility is to use wifi to connect the two sites (for the remote client method that KC mentioned).

I’ve been wondering about this method. I’m guessing that the latency and error correction my get in the way. Anyone know if retying is automatic? WiFi for PC’s is cheap, but the receiving end will need some type of micro.

One way you could do this would be to set up a network time protocol server which would then be used to sync all clocks on the computers that will be used. Vixen could then call the ntp sync program just before a sequence to account for any clock drift from the last sync. You could then program the show to start at a certain time with one computer acting as the scheduler for the others. If I'm not wrong, Vixen uses the high-resolution Windows Media timers for its events, so a common start time should be sufficient. However, if your computer is bad in terms of clock drift (most modern computers should not be), then this approach may not work very well.
This isn't very "easy" though.

I was under the impression they were nothing more than a wireless link for RS485... but I guess they do get their VCC from the LOR controllers...
