Hi,
I am a newb preparing for my first year running a light show. I was curious if you guys (ESPECIALLY THE PROS!) could help give ideas on how to make my show big. I have approx. 10,000 mini lights I got from the after xmas sales. I knowthe basics on how things work. I just need help on how to get big crouds so my hard work, cash, and ELECTRIC BILL isn't put to waste. Please tell me how you make your shows big and what are the EASIEST and CHEAPEST ways to draw big crouds.
Thanks

For me, the 1 thing that I think brought the most people was the newspaper. After being put on the front page of the local paper, alot more cars came. 1 other thing is extension cords. Start buying now because they can add up quickly.
I noticed (from local and this forum) that the media seemed to draw alot of the crowds (as it does to all things). What I am going to try and do it write to the paper or see if the news comes out and hava plan ready that if I get alot of traffic I can desigante the space down the road (my neighboor offered it to me for parking when I asked her :D ) for parking and walking to see the display. And try and get people to enter to see the show on one side.

The key with the media is hit it early! 3 weeks before Christmas is about the latest I'd recommend.
I was hoping someone else would contact the media, but I waited too long before I did it myself.
Also another key is the newspaper, I'm convinced that if it is in the paper people save it and come eventually... with the TV news, usually people have turned it off by the end anyways... that and they flash the address up so fast that you'd have to have been ready to catch it and write it down... people are lazy :)

I never have felt good about the idea of calling in the media as a means of bragging.... So I ask (or if needed, bribe) my neighbors to do it. :)

I was thinking that too and I know my neighboors would do it because they even sais when I turned off the power to my 8,000 lights the neighboorhood looked alot less bright :p

Hey Christmastime,
I don't know how far along you are and what kind of show your going to have, but get a plan together. I am new to this too and I'm planning for next year for my first show also. Not very big. A 12' mega tree 36 channels 3 colors, 24 mini trees, all 3 colors seperate channels, plus other displays, 128 channels all together. Putting the boards together, testing, programing the software. This is alot to do in a year. I have been in the sound and light bussiness and have built probably some of the bigest sound systems back in the late 70s&80s. and I'm tell you this is going to be a chalange and I'm looking forward to it. So with all the big wind talk I just spit out. Put a plan together. And have fun. Happy New Year
BUILD IT AND THEY WILL COME!!!!!!!
