I have a LOR DC card that I use to control a Talking Buck Head and Santa. But as the show expands, I need to stretch the budget more.

What options are there for DC control with Vixen?

I believe there is a way to make a Renard controller work with PWM to dim DC, by changing a setting in the firmware and using power transistors or MOSFET's. Control on the Vixen end would function the same as normal - just specify an intensity.

Depending on what you are doing, you can use a 595. I have used the 5v and 12v straight from the 595 to motors and lights without any issue. You can add relays if you are looking for more voltage. Another sollution is to use a k8055 or k74 for about $40 for 8 channels.

I would like to create a serial network so that I could run less cable around the display.

Is there a serial version of the 595? I have a K108 that I will probably have to create a driver for.

I do have two of those. Haven't got a role for them yet.

In talking with Jon over at Efx-Tek, the DC-16 board should be added to the Vixen supported list. This will give me what a need at a dramatically reduced cost.
