Ok ... been on a buying binge ...
got LOTS of lights , even got me a few tomatoe cages for little trees ... but my biggest concern is this :
Where in the heck do you guys store ALL this stuff when you take it down ? Like the mega tree for example ?
I am planning on building one that will be aprox 10 feet high , but , as I said , where you do store it ? Do you totally dissasemble them ?
And what about the little trees made from tomatoe cages with chicken wire wrapped around it ?
inquiry minds want to know - LOL
Thanks
Mega tree - completely disassemble.
Lights - roll in a ball and put in storage tote.
Tomato-cage mini trees - they should do fine stacked up.
I bought a bunch of 18-gallon plastic totes and I plan to build a shelf above my garage door (hanging on the cieling) to store them.)

ok mega tree, the center pole is 10 feet and 8 feet, both covered in white lights, I roll up the 80 strings

Mini tree, like Matt said, should stack fine. And also like him. I have about 10 tubs that I organize into extension cords, controllers/SSR's, clips/stakes, etc. The only thing I am not sure on how to store are icicle lights. I tried those extension cord holders an those just don't do it. How does everyone else do it?

I am going to try something new this year. I have 12' high ceilings in the garage and the garage is 32' deep. I am going to use PVC and make a grid off the ceiling. I will leave the lights stretched out all year. On the longer strands, I will loop and go back from where I started. I figure a PVC cross member every 3 or 4 feet should work. When this doesn't work then each string will go back into its plastic grocery bag and they will be stuffed into storaged bins and put on shelves around the garage.

Guess I will bring this thread back up.... As some know, I got my 8X12 shed done for my lights. It is almost full now with the display items awaiting to be displayed, so I took a picture of how I have things organized in it.
The 50 smaller mini trees are hung on the wall. This is done with five 2x4's 8' long with 10 evenly spaced holes drilled in them. Think of it as a thick peg board.
The Arches were made two pieces, so they fit inside nicely by hanging from the rafters by wire every 24".
The larger mini trees are on the left, and I have 8 of them on the floor, then plywood on top, making a table to set the other seven on top of them.
The window frames are hanging on the left side wall behind the large mini trees.
The Mega Tree I made with the ability to tear it down, so it lays flat on the floor under the small mini trees. The rest of the stuff goes in plastic totes and is stacked against the back wall.

Wow!!! I'm jealous. My christmas stuff has to co-exist with my wife's car, freezer, lawn mower, power tools, normal garage stuff and everything else that people throw into the garage.
Wow Wayne, nice job. I have my stuff..stuff where ever. I''ve been working on a tool closet on the side of my shed to give me more room inside the shed. Slow going but I'm getting there.

Here we have many a crawl space plus the garage which we keep no car in. Plastic totes galore, many places in the basement including a really big crawl space under a good part of the house where I put my blow molds, candy canes, etc....

My new garage is almost done -- all that's left is a short piece of trim and landscaping. So I've started storing display equipment on the walls -- can't use floor space since that's where my boat is going to be...
But my new add-on garage is 28' long, 9-1/2 foot ceiling, all insulated, and all MINE!
So far all I've done is hang my window frames... which are now rewired with LEDs instead of incans... and my repaired mega-tree pole, some netlights, frames for the garage doors, and my singing choir...

Nice dirk. I really appreciate all you've done to help advance this hobby, and your a very valuable part of this community, so when I say I hate you I mean it with all the warmest wishes and love in my heart! :P Just go and have a good time in your garage... oh, and enjoy your boat to my friend!!!
All kidding aside, it looks great, and will surely aide in set up time. I've got a 1100 sq. ft. heated and cooled basement workshop/storage area, but it's in a huge state of disarray (okay, it's trashed ATM) due to some recent flooding (grey water) problems. No damage to anything except the bottom half of the Sheetrock on 1 wall and the bathroom cabinet, but it needed replaced anyway.

First year so only starting to deal with storage. I have plenty of space due to having a back storage building that is 40 x 60 (2,400 square feet). Only thing is that it is mostly full: being a bit of a pack rat, as well as moving two full house holds into one when we got married. We got our house in a near forclosure deal which included the "back building". Our lucky day ... Only problem with Christmas storage is that we already have ALOT for our inside stuff which I had to "push" my wife to accept, now I am having to go through that again to get her to accept the amount of outside Christmas stuff that I will have starting this year.
These are our inside decoration tubs, which along with the inside trees adds up to alot of stuff to store.

I think there is going to be some major gift buying come this years Christmas to get her to accept that we have to add the outside stuff to what we have already.

My first year was a monster. Luckly, I have room, well had.
This is bins with controllers, lights, and mega tree strands. I noticed that I have exceeded the stacking capacity! These are stuck up in the trusses of my shop.

Then there is the new stock for this years additions!

My light bars for the columns lay nicely in the trusses

I have a loft that is full of trees! 4' and 6' trees here

More 6' trees and you can't even see the 58 2' trees hidden in there

Let's not forget the group buys!
