What date are you shutting your display down for the season?

I usually run my lights until New Year....?

same here, 4/5 Jan everything comes down.

I'll do a basic check as things come in, and prioritise the repairs, and enhancements to the current lights,

and

start planning for 2008!!!

For those of you with Renard, you might want to help us experiment at 115.2KBPS before you shut everything off, just for fun, reprogram for 115.2KBPS and run your program one last time and see if it looks okay!

I run until Russian Christmas/my birthday, Jan 7th. Then if nothing is frozen to the ground, start taking it down...:)

I will try it with my 3 ren8's
If that will tell us anything.

Running untill at least Jan 6.
As long as people are watching I will continue to run.

xmas:
Ill get back to you on that in April.
The ice should be melted by then.

I can lash together 240 channels of renard and give it a test.

I don't think anyone has run tons of channels at 115.2 yet. I'd love to launch Renard at 115.2KBPS next year, you know, just an annual incremental improvement to increase the numbers of channels people can run. It might just work fine for everyone, and that would be good :) But it seems middle of the year, nobody has hundreds of channels to test with, and before Christmas everyone is too stressed out, so it seems to me, after the season would be the perfect time to reprogram some PIC's and give it a go.
I have 10 controllers (160 channels). I'm going to go to 115.2K first, and see if it works (still using two COMM ports) and then, if that works, I'll get all those channels onto a single COMM Port and see what happens.

I'm pretty funny about lingering too long taking down the lights,... January 1st I spend the day on the ladder normalizing things.

I'm lazy... I like to let them run until New Years eve at least, then - I might not turn them back on, but I'll wait until a nice weekend to pull everything down. :(

Mine will run untill the weekend of the 5th. That is the first chance I have to take it all down. I feel if it is still up, let it run.

My Nephew is here to view the Lights tonight, his mother and older brother will come see them tomorrow night. Then on Tuesday morning both boys will be expected to have the entire display disassembled, tested, repaired, properly packaged/crated and packed away.

OK, now for the reality check... on Tuesday I will begin to disassemble, test, repair, properly package/crate and pack away the display, which will probably take about a week to do...

I decided to leave mine run through Jan 6th - Epiphany also. We've had a small and steady viewing all season... The last week before Christmas, we even had 2 and sometimes 3 cars at one point.. Mostly its just a single car at a time, but pretty much every 10-15 minutes or so... So thats pretty cool. No traffic to speak of, but viewers is cool.

New years eve, we had a family from out of town come by, I happen to walk outside to get something out of the car, Talked with the Dad for about 1 minute... He explained they were from out of town, came by to see the lights, yada yada yada, I was out there talking to him (they were out of the car at this point btw), then he told his family "Lets go" ... I said - No no... Please stay and watch.... They piled in the car and drove off... I went inside and noticed they came back, watched the display -- even started dancing out in front of the house :) THAT WAS COOL... I'm not sure what me being outside talking to them does, but it seems to make people drive off a lot more quickly than if I just leave them be out there... so I've stopped going outside.

Ran until Dec 31.
Jan 1 I start tearing down. I spent the day outside shoveling and chisseling the 2" of ice off of the cords. I did manage to get 2 boxes free with about 5 hours of chipping. The forcast calls for rain this weekend, I think I will wait until it thaws to get any more out.

I like to wait for epiphany to be over before packing up. Forecast for this weekend is the highest temp for a while. (40 F is warm this time of year) So I may pull down a day or 2 early.

My stuff is already down. All came down on Tuesday (Jan 1). Of course I probably had the smallest display here (~7000 lights) with the least amount of traffic (maybe 10 cars total). No advertising or word of mouth. I just did it this year to test what might work well on the house/garage and in the yard (have a butt-load of trees out front). 2008 will be a better year...
