Ben I am in for 1. I think the shipping is this high due to how e-bay charges for the sale amount and not the shipping costs. A LOT of e-bay auctions are setup that way to get around e-bay fee's.
Merry Christmas

I kinda figured that. I sent an E-mail and said I am hoping to get a group of 20-30 transmitters together. We are in the US blah blah blah. Could we get a discount or maybe free shipping? So I will let everyone know.

Also as an F Y I - I got a .5w from this seller, and the transmitter is a piece of junk (I'm tossing it to the pasture and taking the loss.) (My previous transmitter that I let the smoke out of this chips still works better) I know others have had some issues also. Perhaps a Co-Op for some Ramsey Units (while more expensive, but significantly better)
I would suggest the posibility of a Ramsey FM35B or Ramsey FM100B (thats the one I'm looking to get)

I wonder if its just the "preboxed" one? The plain old PCB's seem to be fine. Wjohn says he like shis .2W and Xmus likes the 1W.
Ben
well, I got an E-mail saying we can get Free shipping and 20% off. I am not sure if that is 20% off the ebay price or the actualy site. The site says $65. I will let everyone know once I get a response.

I would be in for 2 maybe 3 if you are talking ~$12 ea plus domestic shipping.

I am hoping its off the Ebay price, not the site price. If not, I will try and get him to sell them at $20-25 since he lists them on Ebay starting at $14.99.
Ben
ok, I just found out they are $39ea. with the discount. We get Free shipping as long as we have enough. I am going to say over 15. I am not sure if $39 is lower than buying it off ebay and paying shipping. It sure seams like it.

I paid 59.99, so with the added shipping to each person of around 5.00, there is some savings.

Ben,
Thanks for your attempt to get this going but I don't think they are offering you a good price at all. For that matter it seems like full price. Thats what wjohn says he paid for it.
So I'm going to pass on this.
Posted: Thu Dec 27, 2007 12:03 pm Post subject: Guys, go with a PLL model
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi guys, Ya another newbie here. BUT...... I bought a ramsey FM10kit this year. It was under $50 including shipping and already came with the enclosure and the antenna. It will transmit a quarter mile in each direction with the standard telescopic antenna that was included with the kit and its INSIDE the house. I would suggest going to the next upgraded model with a PLL circut simply because I get a little bit of drift. But other than that, its a great little xmitter. I am happy with it for my first year but next year I will be looking into a PLL with a display. The ramsey FM10 was a little hard to pin down on a freq. since there was no display to tell you where you were. Its a simple build though. If it helps, the seller was Spotlightmall on Ebay.

I did some looking and it is a bad price. I am going to see if he will come lower.

Has anyone actually used and tested this particular unit? Do we know it is a quality item that will meet out needs?

I just want to make sure the coop participants go into this coop knowing the particular unit has not been tested by anyone, if that is the case. Same seller is fine but it does not guarantee it will do what people are expecting.

When I agreed to participate it I thought it was the model that was discussed on
PC forum which is the 1watt version with the PLL but I have since discovered it was not then I sent you a PM. I don't want to get the .2watt version.

Also, remember by bringing in a 1w version this is technically an illegal transmitter without a FCC license.
I'm not trying to be rude/mean/etc here, but, please be careful on what you do here. If this is a true 1W transmitter, and you knowingly sell it, you could be open to potential liabilities. (as you being the importer)
A true 1W transmitter with a proper antenna could transmit up to 10 MILES! Many people use low power transmitters for things in there home, cars, Fitness clubs, etc. (IPods, Satellite Radio, etc) You could open yourself to a HUGE liability. If a sports club (say LA Fitness) calls the FCC to complain you will be getting a nice little visit from the FCC and could result in a 10,000 to 25,000 dollar fine.
As the DIYC community moves forward, we need to look into "the bigger picture" of this. More and more people are starting to look into, and laws/regulations do need to be kept in mind.
My earlier post suggested using the ramsey transmitters. The basic ramsey transmitters are capable of 20-100mw, and output MORE than enough quality power for our use here. They are even availible as "kits" that you can solder up yourself.
Also, people have had great success with the $20 belkin units.

I am pretty sure that the .2 watt version is the one wjohn first bought from this seller, and he had good results. Thats when others started looking at the other models the seller had.

So are we going to get a better price on a coop? do has this turned into a buy it yourself directly from the guy on ebay thing?

Right now the price isn't that good. If I could get him to sell them for $25 would that be a god enough price?
Brian, all, I am doing the .2W because I did get a message from someone saying 1W was a "high power" transmitter. The .2W will do all we need and this COOP will be a "at your own risk" and I will state that. If it does not work, E-mail the Chinese company not me because when I get them, I will open the box and put them in seperate boxes and ship them. Never powering them up.

It would be surprising if the 'Chinese company' responds to that type of email from someone that they have never done business with.

Ben,
Thats a big chance to take when organizing a coop. People are going to send you money for something they think will work based on your recommendation. Whether you came out and said it or not because you are the coop organizer you are responsible to they participants. They sent you the money so technically they bought the unit from you. You can not say "I only mailed it to you so you have to call the Chinese manufacturer". That is not how the world works. By organizing a coop you are taking on a huge responsibility. Last year a coop got out of hand and there were threats of legal action. If you do this coop and something goes wrong you may find yourself, and your parents, in the midst of a legal battle with lawyers, courtrooms and police involvement. If your answer is an "at your own risk" and email the Chinese manufacturer yourself then maybe the coop is not for you and you should re-think things.
BTW, I was not the coop organizer of the coop in question from last year. But as the site Admin I was in the middle of it and I still have the emails and PMs to prove it. Should anyone continue on with a coop and give answers like you are stating in the previous post and/or anything that resembles the examples I have stated I will shut down the coop on this bb and delete all posts that refer the coop. This is not a threat and I do not mean to sound harsh but I will not allow thing to get to a situation where I am receiving legal notices again.
Anyone who reads this let me reiterate that all buy/sell/trade transactions and coops are between the organizer and the participants directly. I should not receive PMs and/or emails relating to disputes arising from such transactions.

I understand where you are coming from. I am more than willing to do the COOP. If there is a problem with the transmitters I will E-mail the company myself and see what we can do. Brian, the only reason I stated what I did was because I didn't want to get letters or something from lawyers because it didn't work. I am going to see what I get from the seller. If not ,were all on our own :(

Its sad anyone has to make statements like that :( its a reality and I know that, but its sad.
This whole thing is for personal enjoyment, and others to enjoy (who watch the displays) for free... And until people has walked in these shoes (ALL OF OUR SHOES), they simply do not know the time, effort, expense and all that go with it, people like us put into these displays people come and watch for 2-15 minutes during the holidays.............. Sad.
@Ben: My suggestion is: walk away buddy. Let everyone fend for themselves on this one. Thats my 2 cents.
GOOD LUCK AND HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY!

I think I am going to walk away. The guy is fli flopping with his prices. If there are 1 or two of us that want to place an order to combine shipping thats not to bad but otherwise I think its a lost cause.
