Hello all. I'm new to the forum and starting to get really interested in doing a display next year. I started looking around and saw that there is going to be a workshop in Houston in July '08. I thought I'd post it here in case anyone is interested.

In looking at their agenda, it appears to me that all subjects they cover have already been addressed via a multitude of approaches, how-tos, lessons learned, and experienced advice at DIY Christmas. My advice would be to put that extra $60 into a few more channels for your display.

While this is not free, many times the local events can be quite beneficial.

The Houston christmas lights community is a VERY active group of enthusists.

Along with the classes that are offered, there also will be venders there.

Here in Phoenix, were working on establishing a similar group, where we get together every couple of months to chat, and get to know each other.

Sounds a little to corporate to me. I like the idea of the one that was recently in OK. I wonder how many we could get together here on DIY and form a mini-workshop? I am about 3 hours from Houston. If anyone might be interested, let me know.

Looking at the agenda it is clear why they don't call it a "MINI".

I'm in Bonham and will more than likely be hosting a Mini at my house this coming Spring. It will geared more towards the DIY community, much like the recent OK Mini and certainly like the upcoming Mini in PA. Everyone is welcome, I've already had several of my friends in Ok commit and I'm sure they're be others attending from all over.

That sounds interesting....might try to make plans. BTW I watched you on the Christmas special last year and that's why I am here....I'm a first timer...lol I think a DIY style would work better for me since the Houston workshop focuses alot on LOR. I just wanna learn all I can :)

Don’t let the schedule intimidate you. We have over 20 classes scheduled and there are a few that are being added right now. We do not have a DIY type class on there right now, but if there is someone that would be willing to lead that discussion I would happily add the class.

Let me give you a few details in case you have not visited the website yet. The workshop will be held from July 24-26 in Conroe, Texas. That is about 30 minutes north of Houston. Houston IAH is the closest airport if someone flew in. We have over 20 classes planned and have the ability to run 4 classes at the same time. That allows everyone to pick and choose what topics interest them and if some don’t interest you then you do not have to attend them. Check out the class details on the website for what will be covered in each class. We are providing a catered lunch on Friday and Saturday and drinks for all three days. Hotel cost range for $59-$89 with our negotiated rates and all within a few minutes of the facility.

We will also have many well know vendors of the community attending. Here is the list of vendors as of right now that are attending. 1000 Bulbs, Action Lighting, Aurora, Christmas Done Bright, Christmas Light Show, Colonnade Lighting, Creative Decorating Inc., Creative Displays, D-Light, Galaxia, Illumimax, Inirgee / ImaginaryColours.com, Light-O-Rama, Suprtec Novelties. There are a few more that will there as well, but have not worked out the details yet.

If you want to be part of the fun make plans to attend. It is $60 to register for the event and I know you will get your money’s worth. If you have any questions or would like to teach the DIY class send me an e-mail or PM. Look forward to seeing a few of you in Houston.
