I wanted to post this sooner, but with the board down, I wasn't able to. I posted it over at diylightanimation.com awhile ago. Here is the link to that post. The plugin link is at the end of the first post. http://diylightanimation.com/index.php?topic=6585.0
Hope you like it.

Ok you have to register to see the attachment.
When I down load the file. Firefox down loads "index.php".
Any chance it can be uploaded here, please.

EDIT - renamed index.php to file.zip and unzipped it.

Doesn't seem to do anything. Good idea concept, but it never would actually modify my sequence. took all the data, but don't see that it does anything

odd

I'll give it a try - a bit late in the season for sure but I'm still playing with a couple sequences. I hope this is useful as Vixen is unusable for RGB stuff as-is really...

edit - Hey that is a pretty cool tool there! It's a bit tedius to pick the start/end times - is there a way to pull that from Vixen in some way (cursor position?).

One suggestion - when I pick the first channel, typically the ending channel will be some channel downstream from the start so when I select channel 129 - the ending should fill in some channel three away by default instead of presenting the entire channel list again - not a big deal but helps a bit.

Believe what you want. It works, others have used it, if you don't want to then don't, but don't go making blind accusations. It's a tool that I made available to help others. If you're worried about viruses get a better antivirus program.

I tried including the file with this post, but the manage attachments tool is giving me fits trying to do it from my phone. I will try to upload it tomorrow from my computer.

As I said in the original post, the explanation is provided at the link above, but basically:

Unzip into your addin folder under vixen (not your plugins folder)
Start vixen, open a sequence, or create a new one, and choose the rgb helper item in the list.

Make sure you set your starting and ending channels and your start time and duration correctly, then click the apply button.

Tory, if you can give me more details on what you did, I might be able to assist you in getting it working.

Brian, I was hoping to be able to pull the start and end channels from a selection in the grid, but I could not find a way to get that information from the plugin api. What I was able to do was to save your previous settings so that when you open it back up you can continue from where you left off. I know it is not ideal, but it is better than than the alternatives. I did not want to automatically set the end channel for several reasons. To address your suggestion, some rgb strings are ordered differently, and sometimes you want your starting channel to be a channel that comes after your ending channel, so to automatically assume, would not be good. I see your point, and I thought about doing the, but decided it would be more flexible to allow you to choose. Besides, once you do it the first time, you can continue from there without having to do it every time. Play around with it a little more and I think you will get the idea. You can use it to create chases forward our backwards, do fades, color changes, even repeat every so many channels.

OK I too have had a play. It works very well you want multiple string to fade from one colour to the another.
I like how I can choose 1 RGB string or multiple numbers of consecutive stirngs
I like the fact you can see the final colour mix, but realise the actual is colour will be totally differently.
I noticed it took a while to fill in the grid.

A nice addition thanks.

Here is the AddIn as requested.

I know that there is a simple program available on the diylightanimation.com site that is an RGB color finder. It is supposed to allow you to adjust the colors and see how they look on your RGB string so that you know what the color value is that you need in your sequence. Again, not ideal, but maybe useful. I don't know of any other way to make the color represent the actual color of your RGB string since there are so many different types of RGB strings and they all might display a slightly different color.

I have noticed that in some cases it did take a second or two to fill in the grid if there are a lot of channels that it is affecting. I am not sure if this is a vixen thing, or if it is something in the plugin. It also depends on the performance of your computer.

I am glad that you found it useful.

My apologies, CourtBard -- I just have had too many customers call with virus issues after having installed something that seemed innocuous enough. In this case I did jump the gun a bit, and in the future I'll try not to be so quick on the keyboard...

That said, I'll take this opportunity to encourage DIYC members to keep their antivirus/antispyware software up to date. We are a very trusting lot and it's only a matter of time before a true virus does hit our ranks, be it accidental, inadvertant or otherwise.
