I've used a number of open source and freeware programs that have a donate button in the app and/or on their website.
I know KC doesn't necessarily want people to pay for his software but I think having a donate button isn’t a bad idea. This would allow the folks that use your software to show their appreciation by giving him some money for his time and efforts. The best part is it is free will.
Maybe a simple statement on the download page that says "If you enjoy using Vixen, you might consider making a donation to the development effort."
