Been checking on this board for a few days. Subscribed yesterday to see some of the images on getting started.
Quick background of my situation. We moved my wife's grandma into a retirement center to we have all of her christmas lights. I think this woman's house used to look like the griswalds. Most of the lights are clear, but I can always get different colored bulbs or buy more strings if I decide to dive headfirst into this. Which I'm sure I'll probably do.
I do computer work, mostly web development stuff but have a nice home office with several computers I could dedicate to running lights. Plenty of Cat 5 and printer cables to take care of those needs. Also plenty of extension cords.
For my first year I was thinking of just doing 64 channels without dimming capabality. My understanding is the most cost effective way is a Grinch with 16-SSRoz.
My understanding trying to track down prices on the site seems to be that for 16 SSRoz board and parts I'm looking at roughly $160. And I can't find the thread I saw earlier but the grinch with parts I thinking was around $40. Is this about correct?
I may go with a grinch and only do 8 channels this next year, as my primary focus is going to be parade of lights in our small town where I'll have this all setup on a trailer with a generator and probably only do 1 or 2 songs as the parade is pretty short.
