Your complaint is similar to others. Here's what I've read on this site: Make sure the power supply is absolutely the required voltage (measure while it's powering the transmitter). Use a good, filtered, regulated power supply. Wall warts usually do NOT meet this requirement. To see if this is the problem, try powering with batteries (you didn't specify the transmitter, so I don't know the voltage). That may address the hum problem. The "static" many times is actually overdriven audio signal. Reduce that as well (still running on battery if possible) and look for improvement. Just saw you posted minutes ago, so hang in there for more suggestions from people smarter than me. It would help to say which transmitter you've got, too.

Also try turning down the output from the computer. These small FM Transmitters are very easy to overdrive. causing hissing and hum's and other fun sounds.

The two most common causes for this are:

1. overdriving the audio input. You need your PC volume much lower then when you are listening via speakers.
2. Lack of a ferrite bead to absorb transformer AC oscillation hum.

PC power supplies aren't necessarily as quiet as you might think. Switching power supplies can be quite noisy. It'll work, but if you hear a "buzz" or loud "hum" in the transmission, you might want to try 2 or 3 2200uf 16v (or greater) electrolytic caps across the 12v output just ahead of the transmitter. They'd probably help quiet the power...

Hi:
For more information, see the post "Audio Boost". There is also a lot of information on power supplies and audio problems in the forum "Radio Waves".

You could post a few pictures of it or try to find it listed again, although it may not help much.
