Hi KC

Well I FINALLY got Vixen 2 beta 4 going on the laptop & tried out the PPC remote client & a few comments:

1. My iPaq rx1950 is 802.11b only, so transferring a 1.5MB sequence across the network takes a long time - in fact long enough for the iPaq to shut down due to lack of use. When this happens, I get an error on the main Vixen PC & any running sequence stops (usually, but not all the time).

2. Can you add a play function to the list of things for the PPC client - I dont always want to edit the vixen file on the iPaq, just start a new sequence from outside to ensure it plays OK - if not I'll edit it & then play it again. Sure I can download the file to the PPC (insert 5 min wait here), then press play, but thats just annoyingly slow - I'd go in & do it if that is the case.

3. Can you add a feature to stop, pause, restart a running scheduled program (and the timers) from the PPC. For instance if I am outside and the 8pm schedule is running (3 sequence repeated until midnight), and I want to play sequence 1 because someone (or me) wants to see it again, I'd like to be able to pause the schedule, go to the list of sequences, select the one I want, press play, watch it, return & restart the schedule, all without going inside.

4. With the sequence list, can you buffer or save that in the PDA - if I return to the list again, it takes 30 seconds for my slow connection to download the 15 sequences in the directory.

5. Can we also have a button on the PPC that you press to get the current sequence, position (time) and total length. I cant see the point having this constantly updated, but it can be handy to note times where errors are, without having to download the whole sequence to the PDA (and when I press play my PDA wont scroll, it just flicks along to 5 or 10 seconds then stops, so I cant tell where I am in a sequence to note errors.)

Edit: Otherwise the PPC version runs reasonably well, so thanks a lot. Now if I can just get 2.0 to run reliably thats a start too :)

Well i wont speak for KC but last i knew the PPC was on hold, as i told you, i was the only one besides KC to have it at the time i sent it to you. There is not a huge demand for it, but i did also forward a list of things to KC that i would like to see.

Just be warned that this may never happen (with KC im sure it will, just is not a priority yet)

Lets get 2.0 out of beta first :D

Oh I agree - Get V2 Beta stable, but I wanted to flag a few issues up for KC to see thats all. He also sent it to me with an apology - he thought I had it & was using it. I had not pressued the issue because I found the first 2 beta's really unstable on my system.

Beta 3 was OK & Beta 4 a little better, but I have not found it reliable enough to run yet, but I know others have. I will probably post a few issues with Beta 4 soon as I get a chance. I finish at 7pm & show starts at 8pm, so I dont have a lot of time to play in between.
