There has been some requests for the Ren-T pcb, so here is the second coop for the Ren-T. I do not know when I will run another coop for this pcb.
I have posted all the files needed, if home etching is an option for you, in the link below. If not, then you can get them from this coop.

COOP Closed.... Order has been placed. I should have a few extras after I ship to everyone who participated in the COOP. Just send me a PM to check on availability and prices.

"How many will I need?" you ask...
The Ren-T can provide the ZC signal for great number of channels of dimming. The problem is the amount of channels you can run on one port. A couple things dictate this. Vixen's time intervals, and the baud rate used.
1 Ren-T for multiple Renard 64'swith PWM firmware and status LEDs installed, but you need to get the 5 volts from another source. It is only providing the ZC (not to exceed 143 channels per serial port @ 57600 baud and 50ms timing).
1 Ren-T per 2 Renard 64's with the non-PWM firmware , without status LEDs and no need for an alternate power supply. (not to exceed 143 channels per serial port @ 57600 baud and 50ms timing).
1 Ren-T for mutiple Ren-C's (not to exceed 143 channels per serial port @ 57600 baud and 50ms timing). It is only providing the ZC
(the channel count has been updated per wjohn correcting me)
The RenT is also does RS232-RS485 conversion.
The parts list, assembly, trace transfer files, ect., ect. is here.....

The Radio Shack transformer SKU# 273-1365 is a nice replacement part for this application if the Xicon is out of stock.

Ok.. I need a little help here guys - I'm a little out of the loop..
I have a total of 4 of Brians 595 boards... So as I understand it I'll need a RENC for each of those boards (4 total since I have 4 of the 595 boards)... And will I need 1 or 2 of these RENT boards?
THANKS

As I understand it:
One Ren-C per 595/Grinch
One Ren-T per 2 595/Grinch
That's what I have purchased. I have not built them yet (except 2 595's), but the above is my understanding of the capacities of the Ren-C/Re-T boards.
Wayne J

you have 4 converted 595 boards. You should run no more than 128 channels per serial port for best results. You will need 1 Ren-T per serial port. So, two serial ports used = 2 Ren-T boards.

Just curious... I thought I would need the RenT to run the Ranard 16 channel board. Someone in Chat now tells me they dont think I have to have it..... I am in the coop for 3 boards and parts kits... Will I need the RenT and if so how many ?
Chuck
P. Short
12-27-2007, 01:22 PM
The Ren-T is not really needed for use with Ren-16 or Ren-24, unless you need the extra distance that you get from the RS232-RS485 conversion. If you don't need that conversion, you can get by with a DB-9 to RJ45 adaptor cable.
The primary use of the Ren-T is to provide the zero-crossing signal for the Ren-C and Ren-64 boards.

David, you are correct, BUT, it is suggested to only have 143 channels per serial port (2 ren64's).... so, you need 1 RenT per port used.

I have received a few PM's and this is brought up in the thread, so I will try to explain it. It seems a bit confusing of the amount of Ren-T pcb's one needs for their setup.
The Ren-T can provide the ZC signal for great number of channels of dimming. The problem is the amount of channels you can run on one serial port. A couple things dictate this. Vixen's time intervals, and the baud rate used.
This season has shown, that limiting to a 50ms interval with Vixen, and 143 channels @ 57600 baud per serial port is best. With that, you use one Ren-T per serial port used.
Wayne I just looked and saw I have 2 RS232 ports, change me from 1 to 2.
Also, I can use it for Rs232 to RS485 AND ZC to a Ren-C right? both from the same board?

Well now I have another question that I can't seem to find the answer to. I have my 2- 595's powered via the cat5 cable coming from my parallel port on my PC. (added power to the parellel port) As I understand it, I will have to switch to the serial port from the parallel port for the Ren-C conversion of my 595's, correct? then I will have to add power back to the cat 5 cable. Will this cause a problem with the Ren-T and Ren-C boards? Can the 5 volts required to power the 595's pass from the PC power through both the Ren-T and then the 2 Ren-C's that I have to get to my two 595's? Wow, can't believe I got this all out. . . . Any help would be appreciated. Maybe this shold be posted somewhere else?

There is no rule that says you can't get some cheap doorbell wire or speaker wire and run the 5v to each of the 595s to power the ren-c units that are connected to them.

I have to ask for everyones forgiveness. Thanks to wjohn pointing out my error. I corrected the first post of this thread with an updated channel count. I had stated that 128 channels @ 57600 with 50ms timing, per serial port was best. This has been brought to my attention to be incorrect. The correct channel count is 143 @ 57600 with 50ms timing.

Actually, I am the guy that does the Ren-T. ;)
deplanche.... I have a list of people for thealotment of the extra pcb's. I can put you on this list.
For everyone.....
To be honest, I do believe the extras will be depleted before everyone who has requested them will get one. So, this leaves us with two choices.....
One will be to have another run of the Ren-T.
OR
Wait for the the Ren-T replacement (DIYC DPS) that is in testing.
This board will have the same function as the the Ren-T, but without the RS232/485 conversion (which is not a needed function in most setups anyways). This board also will have more power capabilities than the Ren-T, elimating the need for external power supplies or tapping into the PC power supply.
I will run another coop of the Ren-T, but I doubt very seriously if we can get the numbers up high enough to get the price of the current COOP run. My suggestion would be to wait for the new pcb.

The boards arrived today! I will start sorting and boxing them this evening. Hope to have them all out by the end of the week. :)

Hi,
How soon will you know when the "extras" will be allocated? And if it helps, part of the reason I wanted a RenT was for the rs232/rs485 conversion.

Wayne - Thanks again!
I got the notice from PayPal that the USPS notice was sent in - I'm SOOOO anixous to get them!
I've got my SSR's and Ren64's built, so all I need before my first test is these boards! I'm going nuts :)
I'm hoping that since I'm in Charlotte, I get them pretty quickly!
Thanks again!

I just got done printing all the labels I had address for. I applied the labels to the boxes, and all that is left is to stuff them and drop them off at the post office. So hopefully guys I will have them all dropped in the mail on Thursday. :)

I sent out PM's to people that had requested orders from the extra pcb's left. I will fill these orders from the date requested, until the supply is depleted.

Thanks for the tracking number.. The delivery address is to my place of work.. Too bad we are closed on Saturdays. So USPS has some answering because I didn't get them. I'll be stopping by the post office to see what's going on.
Thanks,
Dan

Well, after talking to the post office. They can't answer why or where my package is actually at. Since we are closed on Saturdays they couldn't deliver my package and it should of had the status of "Attempted Delivery" on Saturday and when it was delivered on Monday it should of been marked as delivered on that day. So needless to say. I didn't get my Ren-T borads and I still need 2 of them. So if you have 2 extra I would like to buy them from you. But this time I would like them shipped to my home PO Box address.
Let me know if you have any extra and I'll send you the money for them plus shipping.
Thanks,
Dan Blickensderfer
