as a matter of fact - yeah

they are simply some 2 oz plastic "portion" cups that are hot glued side by side to form a globe with an opening in the top.

then a piece of 1/2" pvc cut to 4 1/2" with a cap.
the cap is drilled with a 3/16 hole right in the center
a cup hook is placed through and a wad of hot glue is on the inside of the cap (allow to completely cool first)

the lights are some 5050 module from coroholiday.
2 modules glued on either side (evenly spaced)

the four wires are drawn through the bottom
and connected to a rj45 jack
which will then be connected to my ren48lsd
which is powered by 12vdc (also from coroholiday)

the opening is left open so it doesnt form a complete globe
to allow for rain/snow to fall through the globe rather than fill the small cups up and add weight.

i will post some pics as soon as i can
hope this helps

I posted a write-up about RGB regular Sparkleballs a couple of months ago: http://doityourselfchristmas.com/forums/showthread.php?16121-RGB-Sparkleballs&highlight=RGB+Sparkleballs

My write-up only covers the RGB Module portion, not the actual Sparkballs. Here's that link: http://www.sparkleball.com/

These look great Keebler. I am currently at 14 Full-Size Sparkleballs. Mine are the most common size and use 9oz Cocktail cups.

my humble apologies. this was your design. i am SOOOO sorry.
apparently i read this and it stuck with me.
i made small ones to look like ornaments rather than the 9" cups you are using. the ones i am using are 2oz (from sams club) i think they are about 1" in height.

i do have the start of some 12oz clear cups that i am thinking about using for the TOPPER. but as of late it is only 25% done and i may not finish it. i think that i will use some RGB strips on a 3 foot star i made last year for the topper.

again i am terribly sorry, i did not mean to steal your design nor claim it as my own.

kyc,
it looks like yours are a single string (perhaps single non changeable color) whereas the ones i made are RGB 5050 modules that are controllable from vixen.
none-the-less it still is your design, i just changed it to fit my needs.

I was not saying that at all. Sorry if it came across that way. I was just trying to let people know that there are some pictures of the RGB Modules and the way I wired them. I actually would like to see how you did yours, so I can maybe improve on it. Sometimes the Double post is a great thing. I certainly am not claiming ownership of any design. If you look at the pictures, mine specifically use the Waterproof RGB Modules that have 3 5050 LEDS on them. I use 3 modules (9 LEDS) per ball. I actually purchased mine from HoilidayCoro as well.

Anyway, I really like yours and I like the idea of hanging them on a Megatree like ornmaments.

Also, I did use a Sparkle Ball as a Tree Topper. It was just a White one though. This year I'm thinking about a RGB one with 5 or 6 modules and using 16 oz cups.

thank you!
the tree topper that i am making (possibly) will be using 7oz cups (4 whole packages of 7oz cups from wal mart). it will have 8 modules (12 channels) each of the 8 modules will be mounted to 4 pieces of pvc one on each side allowing for each piece to spin freely which will create cool effects. each of the 4 pieces then run to the REN48LSD controller allowing for 12 channels.

as for the ornament balls (my wife says they look like blooming flowers -hmmm). they are VERY straight forward in the build. i think i posted earlier how i built them if not let me know please. i will repost them.
and yes sure i will share all my notes with you on them.
