I am working on Blue Christmas and trying to sequence Elvis and his backup singers. Elvis is a chicken and his backup are two does and a deer, in this instance :)

Does anyone have any tips on sequencing lyrics? I am getting frustrated beyond belief (or maybe it is because I quit smoking today!)

Thanks in advance!

There was some excellent info from andyb in this thread:

The Papagayo software is very helpful.

Thanks for the link. This might be helpful for when I get into doing pumpkins. However, right now I am not trying to do animation as Andy was. What I am doing for the backup singers (for the time being) is varying the intensity to match the change in pitch, it is just very time consuming. Anyhow, thanks again. -- John

I did it with a coro Elvis and penguins that I built last year with LOR. It was a 64 channels display. I slowed the music and put a mark every time I wanted the mouth to open and locse or the had with the microphone to move. It did take a little time but it worked ok. I have converted it to vix this year and will copy paste the timings to a sequence this year and expand it to my new channel count. (272). If you want the sequence I can send it to you to look at. Just PM the email if interested.

For voices I use the waveform add-in, and cut/paste the voice sections to the character I want doing that part. My snowman, penguins, etc.

I like to play around with the random function for voices. May not be exact but at the same time you really cant tell. I used in my chipmunks sequence where my eves were Dave's voice and each one of my arches were a different chipmunk. Actually turned out better then I thought. http://vimeo.com/7952270

Whenever trying to match voices (or instruments for that fact too), I always use the waveform add-in to help see where hard notes are. I then will slow the music down to make sure I'm in the right spot if it's not obvious on the waveform. Voices can be tricky because it's not just on or off. There is a lot variation to the light intensity. I try to match the pitch or volume with the light intensity. If ind myself really fading in and out a bunch when trying to do voices. For a quick and dirty go at it, try doing quick fade-outs on all of the syllables. Start at the beginning of a word and if the fade isn't done yet, just paste the new fade at the point where it's needed.

Try ctmal's skull sequencer. Set up the skull movement profile so that the JAW movement is
skull open -45 (minus 45) closed 0
vixen open 254, closed 0
set channel to the whichever light channel you want to control for the voice
After the profile is set up and you return to the main window set the Jaw Controls (last one) - select axis (I use MouseY for Up & Down) or joystick, check the enable box and then press R for record. As you listen to the song make the skull display sing along. This will vary the channel intensity with the amount the mouth is open.
You can control the mouth movement with a mouse but I've found that a joystick is much easier to use.
This is the link to information on the add-in
http://doityourselfchristmas.com/forums/showthread.php?15096-Skull-Sequencer-AddIn

I've been using this add-in to program my 3-axis skulls but I just tried it with the adjustable preview and it seems to work well. Good luck and if you try it let us know how it goes.

Just wondering if something like this is what you had in mind (see attached Vixen 2.1 file). You have to add Elvis' Blue Christmas audio. I used the method I described in my last post to sequence it in about 45 min.

That's exactly what I wanted to do. Thanks! -- John
