Up until this point I have soldered all my opto isolators directly without sockets with no problems.
But it occured to me if I used sockets on only some of of my Ren16s I could swap out the MOC3023(random crossing) for a MOC3033(zero crossing).
If I swapped out to a zero-crossing opto with the PWM code would I get the equivalent of a commercial hockey puck SSR? Less the snubber circuit of course.
Would the zero-crossing configuration be safe for non incandescent/non LED loads? IE strobes, inflatable fans, or anything else that fits into the "if you dim it' it will die" category?
