View Full Version : Second Lynx Coop Order

Since I have closed the current coop order I have recieved so many request to be added or to be added if anyone drops out etc. Therefore I am going to open this thread for anyone wanting Lynx's that are not in the current coop. This coop will not be ordered until after the current one is complete with everyone having their units and at least a couple of units up and running. I will do it first come first serve as with the last coop but if we have any drop outs of the current coop the first one here gets the chance for it (I think we have 10 currently unverified for units and they have till next monday to verify) and it will move through this list until the current one is full again with the 69 units I have put a quote in on. I think this is a fair way to handle this.

I expect to be placing the order the first week in Jan for the current order and I do not have a estimate from the suppliers yet but expect to be done before april unless part delivery is a problem to me. This means you are putting in for the chance to get in on the current one but if not for a april timeline order. I agian will need to limit the quanity to make sure I do not have unhappy people by not being able to get the parts back out fast once I have them.

I think at this point I will stay with 50 units as the limit again. You can drop out at any time and no money will be needed until the order is ready to be placed. Just as with the current one it will cost just what it cost me for your units to me and the cost of shipping them out ot you.

If you watch the current coop you will see in the next week or so what the cost comes out to be. I expect $80-$85 per unit plus shipping cost.

post to this thread the quantity you wish to put on the order and make sure if you post a quanity you really want that many so others have the chance to get some.

I know it will take this order a while to reach 50 as the order is off a ways but lets see of we can get enough to do another order.

If you have any questions read throught the orignal Lynx Coop order thread to bring yourself up on what I'm doing.

When you broke the $5/channel excluding extensions coords to the target lights....you did something pretty special.

Newbie here in Aus, just buying all the lights at the moment for 08. Pardon me
if the questions below have been answered

**** Can you put me down for 5 please ****

Can i power the unit at 240v and control the 24V AC mini-lights that are the common lights in Aus?

Also we seem to be getting 18V AC sets and 24V DC sets recently, can these be controlled as well?

Currently thinking of 64 channels of 24v
and 16 channels of 240v for rope lights and other 240v fixtures at a later time.

aussiephil,

The Lynx will handle the 24v lights fine. KiwiChristmas is running one in his show at the moment in NZ. To run 240v lights would require a change to the Mosfets (more expensive) and it has not been tested. Do to the way the Lynx works it should not care but you would not be able to use a striaght coop parts kit to do the 240 lights. You would need to replace the mosfets that come with the kit with others. I can give you a part number to try if it comes to this.

Dc would not be a problem as the Lynx puts out pulsed DC for everything. So expect you would need to do nothing at all for it to work with them. The AC lights dont mind DC either.

Hope this answers your questions.
If you do want to be put down for them then please edit your post to make it clear you want them or remove the part about wanting them to help keep from mistakes being made when the coop gets going. Thanks

aussiephil Pm me and in his pm I relized I need to point out the 2 amp per channel is based at 120v AC. If you run low volt then you can run more amps as the power in watts being dissipated is less. I have no way to test it but I will see if after xmas Kiwi would load up his low volt setup and watch temps for me so I can be sure what is allowable. I can calculate the same wattage easy but it does not always work out at the switching freqency we run on the Lynx. The PWM freq on the Lynx is not 120 hz like the pic dimmers it is 156000 hz so we have to watch the switching losses, this and the Rectifier is where the limits kick in. Keep them cool and you are good. You in theory should be good for 5 amps per channel at 35v but we need it tested before anyone goes out at tries this. If any are built to run 240v lights we need to drop our current to less than 1 amp per channel. The over all unit rating will end up following this also. Hope this helps. If you go out and start trying this before I get it tested you are expirimenting and I can't tell you what the point you will over heat things so let us do testing after the holidays we should have an answser before you have your units.

31 units if I counted correct. NO! I'm not that bad at counting some of these folks made it into the first coop as a few never verified. So we have 31 of 50 so far. Depending on how the first coop goes I may up this one to more if I can handle it easy enough.

EDIT: RJ my situation changed. I have to go with something to resell to someone else. I'll be back for some later; with more resources!

Please rescind my request for 4 boards.

========================================
RJ, I'm an old hand at electronics, but I only know what I read about the Lynx setup. It sounds much better than the rest.

I'll be ready for 4 Lynx's when you place another order. I'll just figure out where I'm going from there with crossed fingers.

BTW, I'm OK with filling in if you have someone drop out.

To clarify, this kit comes with everything, right? And how many channels? Thanks, and sorry for the ignorance/oversight-

And to clarify, the Lynx uses mosphets, nots triacs or SSR's, so the kit includes everything needed to run...

Thanks RJ. Does the board have standard DMX addressing? In theater control, the adress is controlled by several dip swtiches together that form a binary number between 1-512. Is this the same way? I did not see the switches on the board pics. Thanks

RJ

No my stuff is programmed via software. you just put the program jumper into program and send the starting address out on channel 1 to it. If you are using above 255 you then add the additional to channel 2. For example to program 260 you would set channel 1 to 255 and set channel 2 to 5. Once programmed you put the jumper back into operate mode and you are good to go. You can change as often as you like and it will keep the address for about 30 years without power.

Hi,

I know I am quite late but I would like to order two kits.
I am not sure if I will be using 24v or 240v so standard kits will be fine. If I do use 240v I will obtain the different Mosfets for 240v if you can include Mosfet part number details for 240v it would be helpful.

Just to clarify something. I am confused about the mention of AC or DC. Do standard mini lights work with the Lynx? Is the power output 120V?
Thanks.

RJ,

I can't stop reading DIY Christmas. The Lynx looks fantastic!

I'm hooked put me down for 3.
With the co-op filling quickly any chance we will see the kits sooner?

Thanks...

Both Led's and standard xmas lights work perfect on DC. In fact all Led xmas light run on DC they have there own rectifiers in line.

The output is 120v DC

RJ, just one question then..

1. Lynx board is 16 channels, adding a second board adds another 16.. anything else needed to add a board?

I ordered the DMX Pro yesterday... I'll put an order two Lynx boards now then.. Do you use Paypal when they're ordered. or how do you do payment?

The first coop has to be complete first before I can do another one.
But I expect it to go well so it will all depend on how quick I get the pieces for the first one.

RJ, just a question or two..

1. Lynx board is 16 channels, adding a second board adds another 16.. anything else needed to add a board?

2. ou all wre talking LEDS, will regular minis work ok? got abt 5000 today from HD

You need to have the DMX pro dongle and then you should be able to add up to 32 Lynxs to your system without any additional equipment. at 32 you reach the DMX limit of 512 channels and need another dongle to do the next 512 channels.

I am running minis with some leds for testing. There are some LEDS that do not dim as well as others. This is a global issue with any dimmer currently so you should always test the leds you are buying if someone else can't vouch for there dimmability (is that a WORD!). But I have found almost all the Leds I have tired worked perfect on the Lynx.

RJ

P.S with the Lynx if you have a choice to but full wave leds or cheaper half wave save the money the Lynx converts them all to full wave for you so no need to spend more on LED's.

were/are there any no-show in the first order?

There were a few and they were filled from this list in order. There are only a couple unpaid orders at this time if they do not pay by the 3rd I will give the spots out again from this list in order. I do not think it will make it this far down the list I'm sorry. If all gos well the next order will be bigger but this order has been a lot of work just answering questions and trying to get people to send info in and trying to get the orders paid so we can get the stuff coming.

I have nine units unpaid for at this time on the first coop. If they are not paid by Thursday morning I will be contacting some of you in order from this coop to offer them to you. If you are near the top of the list on this one and were not offered units already be prepare and check your pm's thursday and reply quickly. Be ready to palpay the money. I have only a couple of days to fill any missing slots so I will give you only 12 hours or so to respond and pay then I will move on till we are full. I will then place the remaining orders for the part.

I will be locking this coop at this time as we have about 70 already. I do not want it to get to large for me to handle. I will revisit the quanitity when the other coop is done and decided to allow more in this one or not at that time.

I am not opening a third coop thread as haveing one in progress and one waiting is enough.
