I really want to sequence a song that happens to have a couple swears. I'm looking for suggestions?

I'm thinking I have 4 options (and combinations of them).

Be a grinch and just sequence it. This will surely be the wrong thing to do, instead of spreading sheer, I'll have angry parents who have brought their kids for some holiday cheer and end up having to turn off the music.

Have my show go dark for 30 minutes, as if it were done, and do 1-last song with an audio disclaimer before it starts? I could post on my website/facebook page that there is an "adult" song for late people.

Edit the swears out, or bleep them.

Just don't sequence it.

In case you're wondering, here's the song:

Ultimately the show is yours but I would think that song might offend some people. I know a huge amount of people that come to our display are families with kids. I can't imagine that would go over too well.
I imagine that there is a radio friendly version of the song out there though...

IMHO, I would either edit out the swear words, or don't do it. There might be a radio version on Itunes?

I would edit it out and put a word in its place that had a bad vibe..... bull corn, horse hockey, monkey poo are a few of my kid freindly favorites. or a sound dropout and replacement of a jingle bell.

Unedited,..You might get a knock on your door from the local law enforcement. One should not draw any attention to themselves in that manner.

But I would not waste my time with a song even if an implied use of filth or profanity is in it. It is the of celebration of Christ's birth after all.

Fourth. Seeing as we're celebrating the birth of Christ, anything with profanity is off limits in my book.

Wow, edited due to being offensive? It's a Christmas song, but I didn't think the one swear was so offensive. I apologize for even bringing it up! At this point, the consensus is known, I suggest the mods simply close the thread.

I agree. None of my songs have any swear words. I do have the song "It's called Christmas with a Capital C". I am sure some with find it offensive but it is about the season with some humor in it.

if you want to add it, you could at the end of your show announce one more song that may not be suitable for children in two minutes (giving people listening time to leave if they choose) and give a two minute closing announcements, remind them of the possible offensive song and run it. That said, "I" wouldn't put anything over the public airwaves that the FCC wouldn't allow a regular radio station to use. Also please don't be offended by people giving you their opinions, when you ask for their opinion. No need to apologize, asking is the best way to learn how others feel about something or how they would go about something.

Hmmm... now I wonder which song it was. There have been plenty of popular songs that could have had unacceptable words and the artists simply left them out (no word was spoken) though it's not that hard to edit them out.

There are still hundreds of other songs to choose from so it may be best to simply choose another one.

Ernie, If you're really curious, PM me. Basically it's a song asking Santa for a really silly list. Not sure if I'm just desensitized, too young, but I don't find the song terribly offensive. Maybe slightly in "bad taste", but because it's satire, I think I let the 1 swear "go".

My wife really wants this song, so I think we will put it at the very bottom of the priority list as for sequencing (behind about a dozen others). That means we'll never actually get around to sequencing it to begin with. Problem solved. I think seeing the overwhelming majority of people strongly against the song is saying something. I don't want to spend all this time/money on sequencing a show that is going to offend our target audience.

No one can answer that question but you.

I personally dedicate my shows to Jesus Christ as it is his birthday, and I know in my heart "he" would not approve.

No one can answer that question but you.I can say without a shadow of doubt, if that song was played un-edited, I would leave.

Though my generation invented Hard Rock, it's my opinion that this is beyond what the general public would like.
