I had plan on doing something similar (but smaller) this year, however, other issues came up (was laid off) that kept me from buying the projectors, and modifications required to incorporate it into my Christmas Show.

On a plus note: I was just hired (new job), and though it's not going to happen this year. First of the year, will start designing and building the hardware (and tweaking the software) so that Christmas 2012.. I can really shake up the building.

Depending on the size of your house a 3000 lumen projector will work nicely. Here is what one guy did for halloween. He has a mini-howto on his youtube page.
